Sippin' is harder than you'd think...If I sip slooooooooooooo it takes all day to get in 17 gr of protein in one andvantage... If I sip too fast, I get this heaviness in my chest ... I don't want any of it so why should I sip when it is such a pain and then I remember Oh, so I can LIVE...LOL I don't think I am figuring this all out, need some coaching from my peeps... Is the heaviness cause I am going too fast?

It takes me an hour to shower, dry, dress, take a previcid, a vitamin, my lovenox shot, then i think about breakfast eg which flavor protein...then it is get it down. Just about geting 64 oz of crsytal ligh****er, or tea in...

Haven't felt sick at all, tho, just this kind of painful heaviness...

How do you think I am doing? What should I be doing differently??

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Ok I cant answer your questions because I am still preop (for only another 9 days yeeeeeeee). However, have you thought of the getting some of the protein bullets? The ones that have the most protein are like 42 g in a 30oz shot....

I found that the sports bottles worked well cause you don't get as big a mouthful. I could not get in all my fluids to start with it took awhile. I also have water bottles with the ounces marked on the side that was a little easier to see how fast I was drinking. In a few weeks you will be able to drink fairly normal unless your a gulper. Just do the best you can I promise it gets easier.

No   Kate  sippin is not easy.   Yes you will feel pressure in your  pouch when you put  fluid in it. Make sure you count the protein shake towards your fluid intake. Sippin gets easier  each day  you are out of surgery.   I found after a few days  or a week that i took a bigger drink as the sippin gave me gas.  but you will find your way.  Now  being  4 months out  I can  chug a lug a couple of gulps.  I never thought i would beable to do that again. Just keep  sippin and get your fluids in.  It will get better every day. Take care.  and have a great  weekend

Hey Kate, you sound like your doing great.  I'm sure it is all a new learning curve, we have been gulping for years, I now that will be tough for me not being able to drink with my meals.  did you practice that before surgery?  AS for the sipping, I think from what I have read that so many people are different, and even the surgeries are different, they all say the same thing, that, everyone can do different things, one don't dump, one can do this, one can do that.  The the one thing we need to do is experiment to see what our body will handle.  YOu are following the rules, and just do the best you can and you will do great, I have such faith in that.  When do you return to work?  I guess you will have to get up earlier so you can take and your meds and do your sippy thing.  Your awesome,  have a great day.... HOnks for you !!!  Cheryl

Kate, Glad you're home and doing good.  The sipping will get better as time goes on. Right now your tiny little pouch is all swollen from the surgery and there isn't much room in there. As time goes on the swelling goes down and you'll be surprised at how much you can drink. I suprise myself now with the amount of soft food I can consume, like soups & yogurt. If you drink to fast right now the heaviness you're feeling may be gas in your pouch. When you advance to food and if it turns from heaviness to pain, call your dr because it could be a stricture. I think you're doing very well. Are you walking much? Sounds weird but walking does help, even small walks around the inside of your house. Congrats Kate, welcome to the losers bench! ~dori~
