I was wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions? Does Michelle Toder take Mainecare? Does she do Lapband surgery? How long from your first call to them does it take until you go through everything and finally get surgery? Thank you so much for your help.
Hi Angie.
You'll find answers to most of your questions at EMMC.org
When you go to your information meeting they tell you 4-6 months until surgery. I began December 5 and I'm still watiing. Once you get approval to see the surgeon it takes about 4-5 weeks to see the surgeon. Then you wait for insurance approval. Once you have their approval it's another 5-6 weeks for surgery. At least that's the current waiting period. It was a couple weeks shorter when I started.
That being said.....EMMC is wonderful. I went through the process somewhere else a few years back and I wasn't treated anywhere near as good as I am treated at EMMC.
PM me if you have any questions.

Hi, I'm also new to this board and live in Presque Isle, Maine. I'm currently awaiting insurance approval through Cigna to have RNY. I'm really anxious to have an answer from them. I started this whole process back in August. It's quite an ordeal but nothing compared to the benefits of having this surgery. I hope to have the surgery here at TAMC. Wish me luck! KS
Let me try, but first let me welcome you to the Maine site, we are just awesome here.
From what I have heard TOder does take mainecare, but she only takes 2 a month and there is a waiting list. as for how long it takes from begining to surgery date, I think It all depends on what tests need to be run on you. first and when they have an opening for you/being on mainecare. good luck

welcome to the board. you will find lots of information here.
i can't answer your question either but i can tell you from start to surgery with dr. loggins was about 4 months for me. i was very proactive on my appoinments and making sure my paperwork got back to them. i was also aggressive with my dieting for the nut. she had the final answer on whether i was ready or not for surgery. so i really followed the rules and did the exercising.
each case is different. it will depend on what appointments you need but find most get thru the system in about 4 to 6 months.
good luck and visit often.

Hi Angie, Welcome. Yes, Toder takes MaineCare but there is a wait. She does one (maybe two) a month because they owe EMMC thousands and thousand of back dollars. Check out my profile and you can see all my dates. I started in January with the orientation and have had the group nutrition class, the physical therapist, and today the Psych evaluation. My one-on-one nutrition appt had to be rescheduled because Amanda was sick. I see her on April 14th. In the middle of all this I have been diagnosed with sleep apnaea and have to get that all taken care of before they will refer me to the physician. I was told that even if I have all appointments done with everyone and have been given the green light for surgery, the earliest Toder would be able to do the surgery on a MaineCare patient would be August or September. It has been suggested that I consider Huang because he also does the laproscopic. Clough only does open and I don't want that. I am considering Huang, because I am worried that my MaineCare will be cut before Toder is able to do it. I am a non-categorical and they are talking about cutting us or severely restricting benefits. That may not apply to you at all, so don't panic. I just prepare for everything. I am happy to talk to you over the phone if you have questions. Send me a private message with your phone number and a good time to call. And EMMC has been great by the way...they will work with you if you do everything you are supposed to do or they ask you to do.
I am sure there are others on this board who have Mainecare and are further along who may be more help. It is a great place to ask questions and get support!
