Hello all, I don't get in here much at all so many of you may not know of me. I got my lapband surgery date. April 18th.  I started the process back last August with the Bariatric Center in Portland. Well it came to late December and I still didn't hear from them on any appointment date. So at this point my PCP reffered me to Dr. Carroll in Biddeford. He had been doing Laproscopic bypasses for quite some time. So my PCP got me in to see Dr. Carroll on January 2nd. That same day they had me to the dietician and started the process. I have been working with Jessica the dietician at Southern Maine Medical Center and she has been wonderful. So this whole process with SMMC has been great. I just found out that I am going to be the first one that has the lap band at SMMC. I think this is exciting. They did tell me that I will have a team of Doctors there to go through this process. Now has any of you ever been put on a liquid diet a month ahead of time for two weeks then back on regular food and then two weeks before surgery back on liquids. I know what the liquids do for the surgery and what the protein does as well. Just didn't know why they would start me early then back on food again. Since January 2nd I have lost a total of 30 pounds.

First welcome to the Maine board.  Second, Congratulations on getting your date.  I too am going for Lap BAnd.  I am hopeing it will happen soon, I go tomorrow for my Nutrition appt. hopefully she will approve me, then I move on the team meeting, and insurance approval.  I"m hoping. to be right around your date.  This will be awesome, we can compare notes.  there are alot more RNY girls here, all great support, but always nice to have a few fellow bandster to compare progress notes.  I will only have to do a 2 day liquid diet, but Dr Loggins requires us to loose 10% of our weight before he approves us.  Keep in touch.  and good luck............. Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it.  So is anyone excited to get this done but yet apprehensive?

for me, yes and no,  I was more apprehensive because I wanted to make sure I was going with the right surgery for me.  there has been so many success stories with RNY, but my heart keeps going with the band.  And that is my final decision !!! So I am ok with it now and feel confident.  ON other boards there is so much fighting about which is best, blah blah, this site is awesome, everyone is supportive and there is no arguing about who's is better.  I need support not a good fight.  (although, haha, I do like to read the drama)

Oh yeah the day I got my date I almost had a panic attack. I know and knew this was the right choice for me. The day of surgery I was totally at peace with the whole process.
