So we officially signed up at fitness world.  It was a great deal.  It was $189 for 2 years with a $10 start up fee.  So basically $200.  But the owner said it would be fine if we split the years, so hubby got one year and I got the other.  So I thought that was a good deal for both of us to go for a whole year. I had my first gym workout yesterday and boy am I out of shape!  I do the treadmill here and walk away the pounds...but I seriously  could only do the elliptical for 4 minutes.  I tried the stair stepper too (looks like a mini escalator) and I did that for 3 1/2 minutes.  My leg muscles are apparently not getting much from the walking...I could really feel it.  I did the bike for 15 minutes and then it was off to the machines. I remember them saying we aren't really supposed to do any weight training or strengthening for like the first year or something....does anyone know?  Or know why?  I bet it is maybe because it will seem like gaining (since muscle weighs more)?  I HAVE to do the inner thigh machine and the under arm machine.  I can tell those are going to be my problem areas with the sagging.  Of course my tummy...but I am prepared for nothing to really help that much. One more question....I wonder if the sauna is a no no?  I have no trouble getting my liquids in at all...but I wonder if I shouldn't go in?  That might be a call to the office.

Mainly because muscle weighs more than fat if you bulk up to much it will stall your loss. You will lose inches though I am thinking that is why. It could be discouraging to not see the scale move at this point. Just tell the trainer you want to tone not bulk up. I would call on the sauna if I were you.

Woooooooo Tanya!!  so awesome,  and what a deal you got!!! I have been a gym member for years, in between all my back surgeries weight gains, the only time I havent worked out was when I wasnt physically able to.. I am  weird, as I LIKE exercise, well I dont  actually  like doing it, its always hard, ITs I like how I feel after, I dont like how I feel when I dont go or miss time, !! and I am a prime example of  what YOu CAN DO , as I have had 3 back surgeries and a pile of spine disorders,  and the first thing that happens everytime after surgery or bouts of extreme pain,  is get back to exercise to heal, to promote circulation,  etc etc.  OUr Bariatric center requires you to have a personal trainer before surgery!!!   its awesome as its the only way to keep the STRESS DOWN and weight controlled for life..    So glad you are addressing this,   (www.mainegeneral.or/body.cfm?id=121       OUr personal trainer, at home exercises, )           I personally was cleared to resume exercise in 2 weeks,  I didnt do any of the ab stuff for 6 weeks, but I was back on the elliptical trainer,    I know first hand how quickly I lose muscle,  from my back injuries and pain.      YOU are doing awesome , Everyone that starts at the gym  starts at those rates!  Especially on those machines, it took me about 6 months to get up to 30 min.s on the  elipitcal.   Dont beat yourself up, walking in and trying  it all is Major, commiting is even soo much better, Look at all you did do not at what you didnt,  and in just a couple weeks, or less you will see how much better mentally and physically you will feel, you owe it to yourself,  your family to be happy and this is a  HUGE step  in getting there,  I'm excited for you.. as   ITs soo important to  maintain muscle tone  losing weight,  or you'll have more skin hanginging etc.   I have two  family members that had surgery  one is almost 3 years out and other 2 years out, and they didnt exercise  after surgery and they are really beating themselves up and uncomfortable about the lose skin,  its really upsettting to them, so the sooner you get the muscles building the less you too will have on top of all the other good stuff!    I have gotten many compliments of how FIRM I am hahahaha ..    in places.. we all have spots, dont get me wrong, but I know that my commitment to exercise has  really made a huge difference physically as well as mentally.          and  it wouldnt be right if I didnt say that you DONT HAVE TO go to a gym or be a gym member to exercise, can do it anywhere and it only starts with 5 min,s  and  even if its only 15 min. a day it really makes a difference .  I used to say I cant afford the gym, well  I finally realized, since thats the only place I really exercise well at,  That I cant afford NOT TO,  my health my mental stress load,  I owe it to myself  the body  God blessed us with to   try to take care of it. Women often   think a gym is a luxury its NOT and look at the prices you just got, that is sooo cheap.         I just want to  encourage everyone, that  a start  a  restart   and start again, is a begining  !   Exercise is my depression pill, without I get sooo depressed.. ok I'll shut up now.. have a great day everyone,  the sun is shining  and ITS NOT snowing  lets go out and walk today.. Scented Blessings...
