my post disappeared.

tonight i was craving crabmeat and tanya said that was one of the first things she had. i didn't have much, maybe an ounce or so. i took plenty of time to eat it. well, about 20 minutes later i'm dry heaving trying to get rid of it. OMG that was awful. well, another half hour and i was in the bathroom dumping. not vomiting but poooing. OMG explosive. so in conclusion, no more crabmeat or mayo. the thought makes me want to vomit. i just had a popsicle and that is setting very well. makes me scared to move to the pureed stage. i did have tofu for lunch and that was good and set very well. i have 3 more servings of that so will stick to that for a few days.

I think it is too soon for that.  I think Crabmeat would be too much of a solid, if you aren't even on pureed.  I think tofu is good as it is soft enough, but I would go slower.  I know it is hard and you do want to eat normal, but your little pouchie is still healing.

She is on pureed foods now.  We get to be at 2 weeks out.  Our list includes stuff like mashed potatoes, tunafish, chicken (in a can), any pureed beef, poultry, pork or fish etc. I put my crabmeat and lobster in a food processor with a tiny dab of reduced fat mayo.  It went well for me.  It went better than tuna did!  I used to really like tuna....but then again I wasn't chewing it 30 times before swallowing either...what a bad taste in my mouth. I did egg salad too for a change.   What was the best thing you had at the beginning?  I love to hear others experiences.

Oh, she said she was scared to move on to the pureed stage. So I assumed she wasn't there yet. I couldn't have pureed until Month 2.  I still think it is too soon at 2 weeks.  Surgeons are so different. Dr Cobean says that your pouch is still healing in the first month.  After the first month, I lived on Cottage Cheese and pineapple.  Can't do it now. blech!

Kathi, I was on pureed food in the hospital. Dr Cobean didn't put you on pureed food right away? How come? My first meal was pureed carrots and apple sauce in the hospital. Then next day they gave me pureed mac and cheese. I had no problems with pureed food until I got a stricture, then Dr Cobean took care of it and I've been good since. My favorite pureed food was spagetti sauce with hamburg put in the blender with some water. I think I had that almost every day when I was on the pureed stage. I'm not a fan of pudding still, I think because I ate so much of it after the surgery. ~dori~

OOPs! Dori, you are right.  Pureed was first month, then Soft foods on Month 2.  I didn't puree anything. The thought just grossed me out..   I am not sure, but it didn't sound like Lisa had pureed the crabmeat.

We have protein based liquid up until day 15 (pudding, shakes etc), then we have blenderized/oureed foods for weeks 3+4, then we have soft foods canned fruit, boiled eggs, ground beef, peeled boiled potatoes, even toast etc for weeks 5+6 then we are on regular foods.

I had no problems with it when I started the pureed stage.  refried beans, crabmeat, cottage cheese and ricotta is what I primarily have been sticking to.  So sick of pudding. Did you use regular mayo?  Maybe it made you go to the bathroom because it was the first thing not liquid that you really have eaten.  Take it slow.  I hope other things work out better for you.  I pureed up some lobster last night and had it.

that must be the problem. i didn't puree it. i mashed it really good with a fork and used regular mayo. i got kinda grossed out when there were little pieces of crab in it. had to spit them out. i hate that.

i've tried an egg. that set hard but tasted good and went down good. never felt like i needed to vomit or anything.

i just threw up some tofu. very little though. i ate too fast. my fault and lesson learned.

i'm looking forward to trying the ricotta recipe you gave me tanya. i also bought some unsweetened applesauce. i'm still having protein shakes to suppliment what i might be missing. there's no way i can get 60-80 proteins with just food right now.

still the thought of crabmeat makes oscar very unhappy.
