have you ever heard??
I would like to do some fund raiser/ for something. weather it be the Relay for LIfe/cancer, for exercise/good cause... but was looking for something related to food/ like hungry children or something in Maine. Have you ever heard of something going on here in Maine. I think It would be a great cause and reason to train/exercise. OMG, they had a 2 or 3 day walk in Boston, OMG. I'd have a million band-aids
I think the food banks are all low on food in the state because of oile prices. Most of the local food cupboards get their food from a larger food bank like Good Shepherd in Brewer (and I think there is another one in Portland area) not sure about central or Northern Maine. But check with your local food cupboard and see where they get their food from and then call them and see what they need or if anyone has done this for them in the past. I am sure folks have and they would welcome any amount from anyone anywhere. What a great idea!
You might also think about doing a fundraiser for oil. There is a wonderful place that is distributing oil on a first come first served basis. It has been in all the papers. It is called Sunny Corner Fuel Assistance and it is a donation driven “neighbors helping neighbors” fuel assistance program that helps Mainers who need fuel. With more donations, more folks could be helped. No overhead. No red tape. Just neighbor helping neighbor. I have contact info if you want to call them...
You know, I would guess that anyone who does a "walk for the cure" or something like that for a good cause does it for exactly that reason. Sometimes it is just for the cause itself and to challenge themselves to do it, but other times it is a way to get a good bout of exercise in. I am thinking of the "Project Bread - Walk for Hunger" in Boston every year. It is huge; over 40,000 walkers. They walked 20 miles and there were waystations and first aid stations all along the way. Our church was a aystation where they could use the bathroom and have a drink of water and a snack. Nothing was timed, the goal was to finish and they each got pledgers to pledge $ that went to hunger in Boston area. Now of course this is a huge event, but there is nothing to say you couldn't do something on a much (much LOL) smaller scale.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the idea of organizing a walk for hunger yourself. It isn't as hard as it sounds, and besides, I have great confidence in your abilities! Besides, the Good Shepherd Food Bank would give you lots of help. Small groups do it all the time. You could organize 5 or 10 folks from here to do it (not me yet though I am sorry to say) and that would be enough. If you added friends and family, all the better. here is a link to their website...just check it out and give them a call before you say no...

Mary's Walk is in March. It's in Saco/Biddeford. A walk for Cancer in memory of who else Mary. Call the Kerryman Pub in Saco for details. It's a big deal down there and I think it's a 5 mile walk.
I'm doing March of Dimes 5 mile walk on April 12th in Lewiston. Anyone want to sponsor me Send me a message. Anyone want to walk with me? Send a message too. Guess I need to start walking to get my legs stronger.
