My 1st post-op appointment update

So I had my first post-op appointment with the surgeon yesterday (I am a little over a week out).  Everything looks great, he took the staples out and gave me the go ahead for  more exercise.  I was also given my driving priveledges back (which I was dying for since I haven't even been on any pain meds and my mom (designated driver) totally drove right up over the curb pulling into the office parking lot.  I was laughing so hard about how I am not to drive, but she can.  Of course hard looong laughs still make the tummy a bit sore. I also got the go ahead to take normal pills (non chewable) starting Monday and I am on the next diet phase Monday YAHOO!  I am soooooo excited for actual foods and not drinks!  Funny I have been craving fat free refried beans....and not chocolate lol. So I will now be able to try (one at a time) scrambled eggs, cottage cheese. refried beans, hummus, smooth PB (mixed in something), mashed tuna or chicken...yum, mashed potatoes, unsweetened applesauce etc.  Oh I will be a happy camper starting on Monday. I have lost 10 pounds since my appointment before clear liquids, bowel prep and surgery.  I have lost 5 since surgery itself.

aweeesome, you sound like you doing super.  10 lbs. worth all the pooping eh? did you look at that egg face website for recipes.  I think you might find something fun to have with your refried beans. can you have spag. sauce?  and cheese? yet?  I use to make a crustless pizza with egg crust, was very good.  well, you keep up the great work and have a good weekend.  cheryl

I haven't looked yet.  I did get some recipes from another site...nothing fancy...just like adding spagetti sauce to cottage cheese---nuking and making a mini lasagna etc.  I am sure everything will end up in the processor.

I can see it now....your mother driving up over the curb.....it is a giggle! Great job - getting into that soft food stage is the best thing that has happened to me since I don't know when, I was so grateful to get off protein shakes although I still try to supplement some since it's difficult at first to get in enough protein.

I am sure I will always supplement too.....but not having to have a shake for breakfsat/lunch/dinner, or runny protein pudding will be a HUGE treat---not matter what it is ha ha.

Great news!  The liquid diet is hard.  My surgeon makes you go on a liquid diet two weeks before surgery.  I am doing better than I thought I would, but it freaks me out when I think that I will not chew anything for a whole month.  Hope everything continues going good for you!

I was scared to death to start eating funny how we are all so different.  Good Luck starting your eating phase.

Glad to hear that all is going well! I was SO ready for food!!! Take it easy though ... I was so excited about mashed pot. that I made myself sick. Take it nice and slow!!! You might find that some of those foods don't taste as yummy to you now! I was SO excited about tuna .. but it tastes SO gross to me now! Congrats on moving forward!!

I will definitely have to go slow.  After the appointment I went to SHaws and got a bunch of small containers of "the new stuff" I can have soon so I am ready.  It's funny how just adding a few things from a short list can get you all excited!  I haven't noticed my tastes change too much from what I am having now.  The shakes I liked before I like now.  Certain drinks may be too strong, like fruit punch, but everything else seems pretty normal so far.

That is good news Tanya. I'm just psyched to have liquids right now after going days with nothing. Water tastes soooo good. I'm sure in a few days I'll be ready for the next phase. I've done good so far today. I've had 2 8 oz. shakes and almost a whole bottle of water. I'm napping a lot cuz the pain meds do that so am sipping as I'm dozing. I brought the bottle of water right to bed! I'm actually surprised at how well I really feel. I will take it slow though. I don't want to overdo just because I feel good.

Glad to hear you're on the right track. Glad you're driving again too.
