family waiting during surgery?

I know I have read about this somewhere---but these clear liquids (and me starving) are messing with my head. Do you have to have a family member there waiting for you during surgey?  LIke is it a requirememnt in case they have to make decisions or something?  For example, can I go in myself for 5:45 am and then my husband go to the hospital around 8:30 (after my surgery has already started (at 7:30)?  Or does he not even need to be there until say 10:30ish when the surgery should be about done from then on? We are trying to coordinate things here...my mom gets off work at 8am (she has an overnight job sometimes).  So my husband will need to be here with the babies (and getting someone that doesn't know the morning routine with them would be hard---and hard to do for them). So then I am thinking---well he an get there by 8:15, 8:30---but if I am already in there, what's the point (unless it is required).  Why wouldn't he just come closer to the time when it might get done? So how much time did you really have (not with nurses getting all hooked up, anesthesia, ect before they wheel you in?  If it isn't much time I am fine with it.  If I am gonna be sitting there for an hour and a half, then I will just have a friend come with me so I have someone there before I go in. I hope this makes sense---we have some planning to do.

Hi My husband went in with me  till they took me away  and then we went  back to work as he was only  5 minutes away from the hospital.   They called him as soon as surgery was over and I was in recovery.   Then they called him when i was  on my way to my room.   He got there  a couple minutes after i got there.  I didnt want him waiting around   6 hours   waiting for me.  But going home was too far away if he needed to make any decisions. That is what we did.  Hope your surgery goes well and we are making space on the losers bench for you. Patty P

Tanya, I"ve had surgery several times at CMMC, and they never made my husband stay, he did come in till they wheeled me into surgery, but left right after and returned a few hours later.  He wasn't even needed before either.  I think they ask if you have someone with you if you are just having day surgery and going home after, so someone is there to drive.  whatever you need to do will be fine i'm sure, if you would like to give them a cell phone # or home phone for them to call incase of emergency that you won't need,  they will really do anything you want.  I even went into the operation recovery with my little man when he had surgery, they were all fine with it.

My mom stayed til her kidney stone was causing her to much pain. The surgery can be a long process mine was about 2 hours but it can be up to 4 so I would say it is up to you. but it is not required.

hey, tanya, I dont' remember asking you this, if I did forgive me.  How did your mom make out on Friday. how much did she loose, I bought myself a new scale and trashed my old one.  I've had a rough day on my diet today, Just so tired and cold, just grabbed the first things avail.  You must be dying with your starvation diet.  just keep your mind on surgery in 2 days, yaaaahoooo........

She lost 7 pounds, so she is doing well.  She had lots of changes to make to her log though.  Because of her diabetes stuff she has to now count carbs as well.  Her vitamin D was also very low.  So she has to take a pill once a week for 8 weeks.  The do labs after that.  So she would have at least 8-10 weeks before surgery anyways because of that.  She was really bummed about it. I went to a 1st birthday party today for our friends that have twins also.  I of course could have nothing bu****er (that was what they had clear)).  And her mom kept asking me over an over" Can I get you something to drink, how about something to eat, there's chili, how about a cupcake, I can put some cheese and crackers on a plate for you, did you want something to drink?  You could tell she wanted me to have soemthing.  I imagine this is how it might be at restaurants etc.  I am gonna plan on ordering a water always and then just not drinking it just so they don't bug me.  They also had goodie bags of frosted sugar cookies to go home with...but none for me. I know one thing---I am soooo hungry..  I can't wait to not feel that.  I must have had all of 100 calories today---if that.  My hubby is having pot roast and au jus.  Au Jus is clear......I did think about it ha ha---but grabbnig more broth. Bowel prep tomorrow....but it will all be worth it in the end.

oh, my GOD Tanya you must of felt like saying "leave me the hell alone"  My mother is like that, we have to get mad before she stops, then she says, "why you all so mean"  she can ask the grandkids 25 times if they want an apple.  Even they will say, "NO memere, I said NO a million times" haha, not funny at the moment tho.  boy your belly is gonna feel flat tonight in bed, hehe.  Think of the weight your loosing as we speak....size 6 here you come. My blood lab came back with low b12 and I had to take vit. for 2 weeks and take bloodwork again, but they said it woulnd't affect surgery.  I did it all, But your mom did awesome with 7 lbs.  It can be very hard to make so many changes all at once.  counting cal, proteins is enough for me,  sodas, caffine, Poor her. with carbs too.  Hopefully your right about if she gets on OH while your in Hospital she can see all the wonderful supportive people on here and see she isnt' alone.
