Pain Scale

I know my surgery is getting close and I'm a bit nervous about the pain. I had a c-section to deliver my 10 pound 10 ounce baby boy almost 16 years ago. I was induced 4 times and went into labor once on my own. After nearly 24 hours of pictocin labor they took me to surgery. Kendall was born at 4:37 am. By mid afternoon the numbness wore off and I was able to get out of bed on my own. He was crying and I couldn't reach the bassinett so had to get up. Skip ahead a few years... I had my tubes tied laproscopically on a Wednesday morning. When I woke around noon time I wanted to die. I got a shot in the butt. When I woke a couple of hours later I felt great. The following Saturday I went bowling. I know.... I'll never do that again. I was sick the next day. The point was I felt pretty good within a couple of days.

So, what can I expect for pain from this? It's laproscopic like my tubual so hope for similar results.

I have a huge pain tolerance so I am probably not the person to ask.. I didn't really feel pain I was sore yeah but I hurt less with this surgery than I did when they took my gall bladder out. I was sure it would be worse.. They have you on a pain med pump . Honestly I did use that a little bit but only whey I coughed.. They kept coming in asking if I was ok cause I hadn't used the pain meds much lol.. I just said if I needed it I would use it .. Just have a pillow when you need to cough... I didn't think the pain was that bad, but then again I didn't take pain meds after my C sections either... You will do fine ... I usually go in thinking it is gonna hurt like Heck then its never as bad as I can imagine.

I haven't experienced the other surgeries you had so I can't compare the RNY pain to that but I did have mine done lap and I can tell you it wasn't that bad. I did have pretty bad bruising but my surgeon was surprised by that and said it wasn't normal, I bruise very very easily. I was up and walking a few hours after my surgery. It was mostly muscle pain where they pierce your stomach muscle and so it made it hard to sit up, but that only lasted a few days. For me the most painful thing after the surgery was the trapped gas inside, it got stuck under my lungs, didn't go to my shoulders like most people say, and made it hard to breathe and very very painful. I let my nurse know and she gave me dilotted (sp?) essentially morphine which put me to sleep (because I am a light weight when it comes to pain meds) but helped a lot with the pain. That severe pain only laster for about a day. Overall I don't recall much pain at all, you don't have many nerve endings in your stomach because you don't need them there so there wont be much pain from the cutting and stapling, just pain from the muscles in the area. I went shopping a lot after I got home and I always pushed the cart around the store because I liked having something to lean on and I didn't have any problem doing that as far as my abdominal muscles were concerned. Sorry, I know my thoughts are kind of split up, hope I atleast somewhat answered your question.

I have had 2 other Gyn surgeries and I was cut from hipbone to hipbone. This was nothing even lose to that so if you have had a c section expect much less pain than that.  Best of luck and keep us posted.

I won't say there hasn't been any pain....but it's been surprisingly little. I was up walking soon after I was in my room - just to the bathroom. Mostly I'm just worn out.
