Dumping mostly from sugar?

I was wonderning if the dumping is mostly from sugar.  I know about the sugar under 5g, fat under 5g, sodium under 300 mg etc.  Of course sodium is bad and makes you retain water---but does it make you dump?  I am going to try as hard as possible to stay under the 300mg.  But on the first phases I am having a hard time finding any soup that is under like 400mg. Has anyone dumped if they went over 5g of fat?  I do NOT want the dumping...ever.  I am so paranoid about it.  Which is why I would be so scared eating out (from my other thread).  Because how do you know the sodim content etc.

I am too I hate throwing up so I am being so cautious. All I know is that Corinne said you will dump with to much fat.. I am just not going to take any chances with it.. Sorry I have not been out long enough to really answer your question.. I would actually like that answer to that one myself...

I have never heard of dumping from salt.  Only sugar and fat.  I have discovered that I do dump and it is only in the form of feeling really nauseaus and sweats and heart racing, no diarreah or vomiting, thank goodness.. It lasts for about 20 min.  And it is only brought on by a huge amt of sugar, I can have something with 10 to 15 mg with no problem.  I didn't think I was a "dumper"  but apparently I do in a very mild form of it. I had the this dumping experience once also from lobster bisque. I think it was just too rich  and also 1 piece of pumpkin cake with frosting (about a 3inch square of it).  Although, I did have my birthday cake on my birthday with a little frosting and I was fine.  But mainly I do try and stay away from it.

Good to know.  I don't know how I will tolerate it, but sometimes a good jerky is a good boost ya know.  I was worried about the sodium.   If everything came with a label---even all the frsh stuff---I'd be all set :)

It is best not to test the waters, like I did.  I would feel better if I did dump on the least bit of sugar.  But I also feel good that I can live a normal life and be able to have some once in a while, like birthday cake on my birthday and not feel deprived.

I, personally have never heard of "dumping"" from sodium. I have had a few episodes if I have eaten a bit too much fat but other then that I've been fine. (I have never really been a "sweet" eater anyway so I automatically stay away from cakes, pies and the like.) As for the episodes I have had, it's been just nausea and even now, I can pretty well sense just how far I can go comfortably. before I get to that point. (I have no more than a slice or two of pizza) and I stay away from most other fried foods. Anne

No one ever told me about under so much sodium. I KNOW I have more than 300 mg sometimes. I also at my stage 16 mos have up to 10 grams fat and 10 grams sugar if it is a good thing to eat like a lot of protein. Al though most is way under that. Have you tried the low sodium soups ??? I didn't even have a peice of wedding cake of my son's I made last summer. And never no B cake here. I really do not want to know if I can eat those no no's. It unfortunately is all a learning process. Good luck, Pam

I have never heard of dumping from sodium but I do dump mildly from too much sugar and fatty things don't stay down (porkchops are my sworn enemy!) I can have 10-15 g of sugar but I also find that sugars in solid food effect me more than sugars in liquids. Like there are these granola bars I have tried with something like 16g of sugar in them and they make me feel horrible! I get all sweaty and my heart races and I feel nauseated. Actually off the top of my head I can't think of any liquid that would have more sugar than that...gatorade maybe and that doesn't make me dump. I have heard dumping goes away after a time but I personally don't feel like I want to keep trying to eat large amounts of sugar and test it, I hate dumping so much.

I think dumping is mainly from sugars and fats, but you can ask your nutritionist about the sodium to be sure.
