Is there such a thing as a restaurant guide?
I was wondering if there is such a thing as a gastric bypass restaurant guide. I know we shouldn't go anyways, but it would be good to have something like that handy in case of travel etc.
Like if you go to this type of restaurant your best bet is to try x, y or z. I know to ask them to prepare things differently, I know things to avoid....but you never really know the fat and sugar content of everything (and sodium).
I think this would be great for all WLS patients. It would make it a lot less stressful I am sure. I don't plan on going out hardly at all, but I don't want my family to miss out either.
Like categories: Chinese, Family, Steakhouse etc.
Anyone know of something like this, or put something together for yourself?
There is a guide hold on Ill get the title for you.. Its put out by the American Diabetes Ass. The name is Guide to Healthy Restaurant Eating..By Hope Warshaw. There is also a little bit in the Biggest Loser Complete Calorie Counter book..By Cheryl Forberg. These are books Corrine had me get these after my first meeting with her. I am surprised she didn't tell you about these.. I also have a Cookbook she suggested Eating well after weight loss surgery..By Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. Hope this helps.. I ordered them from amazon.com but Im sure Borders would have them.
I eat out in restaurants all the time. There is no reason not to. There are plenty of good things out there we can eat. I don't have a problem with any food really. I just have it in small quantities. I just choose not to eat certain foods, like heavy bread, rice and pasta... except for my wonton soup that I enjoy a couple of times a week. I have no problems with steak, chicken etc. I even can have sugar, which scares me that I don't dump but I am careful.
I have been out to eat quite a few times since my surgery due to the death of my step-mother dec 30th. I can tell you that most places are very accomodating when you tell them up front about your surgery, they will work with you.
IHOP in Portsmouth NH let me order of the kids menu and gave me sugarfree syrup.
Ruby Tuesdays in Auburn let me order just plain keisch(sp) and gave me sliced strawberries on the side since I cant have salad yet as well as letting me have a child size drink so that I could take it with me when I left.
Gippers in Auburn let me order just a side of mashed potatoes.
So I think most restaurants at least around Auburn are aware of the surgery and know that we have limitations, besides the still get paid pretty much the same not matter what you eat. LOL.
Sorry I have been away so long. I have had to help my Dad clear out his house and run all of his errands since he is legally blind and can't drive. I never realized how many hoops you have to jump through when on SSI and your spouse passes away. Jesum Crow!!! Some places were downright rude to me when I tried to help my father signing papers because he couldnt see where to sign them. Never mind the places that wouldn't talk to him because he forgot to bring her will with him. All I have to say is...put your ducks in a row now so that your family will not have to go through what we went through. My Dad thought he had his i's dotted and his t's crossed and it still didn't work out exactly as planned. Oh well, live and learn. Take care everyone!!
I have ate out. Salads with dressing on the side especially chicken meat with them is a good one. I really like to eat at Bugga Boo creek their roasted chicken and veggies are so GOOD. Most places are nice if you have a question on how something is cooked too.
I have ate Wendy's chili, Burger King's chicken grilled salad.
of course no desserts or fried foods.
But i do not feel deprived.
pam
I eat out a lot. I've yet to have a problem!
I usually order steak or chicken, chef salad, chili, soup etc. At Margarita's I order fajitas etc. There are TONS of non-fired low sugar items out there! I always order a regular meal and take the rest with me - hasn't been a problem yet!
When in doubt = you can always order sauces and dressings on the side!
There's no reason you can't eat out ... definetely after week 7 especially! (although I do like to try foods a home first, just in case! Though, I'm over 4 months out and have yet to dump!!!
