She is going through Dr. Loggins.  She isn't much for using the computer except for to search thnigs and read the paper (and maybe a little shopping).  She sees Corrine in February I believe.  We will be good support for each other.

Not us.  I started the process a few months before my mom.  So we were in different classes.

well, maybe not, she sat next to me and said her dgt was doing it too, she didn't talk much. I just thought her dgt was in the class, just sitting somewhere else.  so she was by herself, now I think about it.  I didn't look at her very much, she seemed very quiet. so I left her alone, I can be a chatter box, but can take the hint when someone isn't. hehe

I think they do that for patients who have asthma or asthma like symptoms.. It tests the oxygen exchange in your body.

Blood Gas  is done to see how much oxygen your lungs are putting out, basically,  Its commonly done for major surgeries, as major surgeries the number 1 complication is  pulminary embolism wich they  will monitor your  o2 stats   until you are up and walking,  and day you leave.  02 stats are your oxygen levels constantly, as anytime you are not moving the blood stops  slows pools and  could cause clots,  and they usually are in the lower legs, the legs  veins travel to the lung the first major organ that is supplied, thats why its often stuck there and is good, usually pain will tell and it can be treated, rather then continuing onto   brain etc. for a regular stroke, the  pulminary embolism is a lung blood clot. (but this is also why most dr. prescribe lovenox injections pre op and post op)a short acting heparin, that prevents clots.               soo  if they know  your blood gasses are low  you may have another issue somewhere  , the oxygen is needed to  exchange in your blood and supply your organs   .. sorry tried to keep it simple, excellent question  as blood gases are taken from an artery and only few folks can draw in arteries, I didnt have any troubles, and have it done often,, again everyone is different, they did mine pre op as well.                       hope this helps. blessings Allicca

Congrats girls! That is so thrilling! :)  You won't get to pick your date though. They'll just offer you one. It's not like you can look at the calendar and just pick when you want to have it done! They offer you the first available slot! :)  It would be cool though if you guys could have it done together. I LOVED my roomie in the hospital and it really did make it so much better to have someone that I liked to chat with and walk the halls with!

MamaG,

to answer your question I only saw Corinne twice. I was anal about my journaling and exercise and fluid intake. Between visits I started trying different protein shakes and powders and have found 2 I really like (Genisoy unflavord and AES Chocolate. I love the chocolate with a tsp. of cherry extract. Tastes just like chocolate covered cherries. I'm buying coconut and almond this week for a chocolate almond or a pina colada flavored shake. I bought a body fortress shaker in the protein section at walmart and that is a huge help. I don't have to dig out the blender.

So you too could be thru in two visits but you have to be very serious about what you're eating, fluids and exercise.

It has been a long time. I was refered to Dr. Loggins in Sept. and had my first appointment on Oct. 12th. I am very pro-active and got right on all my appointments too.

You'll be there before you know it. Keep on keepin on!
