Not losing

Hi Everyone! I wanted to ask you all if you've experienced plateauing in your weight loss and if so do you know what is caused by this? I am asking because I am now almost 3 weeks post op and have been rapidly losing weight but seem to have plateaud at 32lbs lost.  I am not overly frustrated by this but I am wondering if I am doing something wrong? I've heard that if you don't get enough protein or liquids in that this may cause a stall in losing the weight.  I do have to say that I am having a REAL difficult time right now with finding foods that taste decent enough for me to eat and really just getting over the smells is a challenge in itself.  I have had to stick with the liquids for most of my meals but I am trying to have atleast one meal per day that is not all liquids.   If anyone has any advice for me on this topic or even some words of encouragement I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Cathy :)

Cathy, As they say we all go thru stalls..mine wasnt until 3 months and went for 6 weeks..I didnt lose a thing for over six weeks.  I did up my protein thank god for lactose drinks .I can now drink them.. I still cant drink just plain water I have to put crystal light or something in my water or I cant drink it. When I was in a stall I measured my body instead of weighing..I had lost 19 1/2 inches.. Your body is playing catch up kinda like it thinks it in starvation mode thinks it starving and it really isnt.  Just keep doing what your doing, you will start losing again. Thats what  everyone told me.    Three Main thing to remember: Protein ,Water, Exercise Hope all is well Keep up the good work  Barb

Hi Cathy, I agree with what Barb said, I have been stuck for two weeks....284.4 every morning for the past two weeks, it is getting sickening, but I know they will start moving again...and hopefully soon!!haha  You will wake up one morning and find five pounds melted away overnight...that is what I am hoping for in the AM!!haha   Best of luck to you on your journey!!!

You certainly aren't doing anything wrong, it's just your body's way of playing "catch-up".  It happens to all of us and it can prove frustrating if it lasts for longer than one would like. I was told by the staff at Dr. Loggins office to not look at the scale so much when this is happening, rather to go by how your clothes look and feel on you. That is certainly good advice as I went down several sizes before I was really aware of it! Numbers on a scale are great.....but it's how you look and feel within your own skin (and clothes) that counts. The weight will definitely come off. We all certainly didn't put it on overnight Congratulations on the 32 pound loss! Isn't the loser's bench a great place to be? Anne

Hi Cathy,    A 32# lose in 3 weeks is terrific.  I agree with everyone else....your body is most likely just taking time to catch up and don't go just by what the number on the scales says.   The rules to WLS seem to be almost in direct opposite of what we all learned during our dieting years.  You have to eat to lose weight.  If you don't get enough protein, liquids and calories into your body, your body won't lose anything.  It's gotta have fuel to burn, otherwise it thinks your starving it and it holds on to every little fat molecule to survive.      At the beginning, when I could finally eat, I found that if I didn't get enough calories in, I would be at a stand-still on the scales.  The days I felt like I ate like a pig (okay, a wee little pig - lol), I'd get on the scales the next morning to find I'd lost 2#!   You have to be concious every day of what your taking in.   If you don't have a food journal going, try starting one to keep track of everything.  It'll help you see where to improve, what works and doesn't work.  As you get further out, things will get easier.  Keep the faith! Blessings, Yvonne

You all have been so amazing in all of your responses.  Each one has helped me out tremendously and I want to say thank you to you all for your kind words of support and encouragement.  Especially the great ideas too.   Yvonne, I especially love the idea of keeping a food journal.  Why didn't I think of that one already?? I think I'll begin one today. This whole process is about finding what works and what doesn't and I know that for me I need to teach myself to eat 3 meals a day because I never did before and I need to be more aggressive about eating protein as much as I can.  It's getting easier with each day but I know that I have a long way to go still. Thanks again everyone!  I'm sure you'll hear from me again with my next obstacle to overcome! Take care and stay warm!!! ~Cathy :)

Your most certainly welcome Cathy!  We're all here in this boat together....sink or swim.  Personally I'd prefer for all of us to swim!  LOL      I think you'll find that keeping track of your foods and your activities, will help you develop a routine and plan that works.  Trial and error.  We all have to do it.   I try to keep to the basic 3 meal a day plan, but I don't forget the snacks.  They help to keep my blood sugars level and the hunger at bay. Usually I feel like I've been munching or drinking all day, but it's working for me.   Can you drink milk?  I was a bit lactose intolerant right after surgery, but thank the good Lord, it went away and I now get at least HALF my protein in by drinking skim milk.  My NUT says it's perfectly fine and it's much easier for me to drink milk than to try to fit in enough hard foods to get my protein levels up. At the moment, I drink around 48oz of skim milk every day.  That's 48 grams of protein!!   If you can drink milk, give it a try.   Your doing great Cathy!   Keep at it!   Blessings, Yvonne

I also plateaued at 3 weeks and was told it was normal and almost everyone does it. Since then I have plateaued many times and sometimes gain weight during my period. They way I look at it and have been told to look at it is that you lose so much your body needs a chance to catch up. 32lbs. is a lot to lose in 2-3 weeks and so your body is probably just taking a breather. You will start losing again soon!
