Sleep Study===nightmare
I was soooo looking forward to my sleep study which was Friday. I know it sounds crazy, but with 2 infant twins a whole night of sleep without having to get up many times throughout the night and sleeping lightly listening to the monitor was going to be great.
I knew I would be hooked up and all that, but really, how bad could it be. Uuuggghhhh---My sleep was worse than at home with babies! First I had to wait until 11 to finally get the okay to go to bed after they hooked me all up. That is late for me since I am always so tired from lack of sleep. The bed was like a wrestling mat it was so thin and hard. The pillows----could they be any smalle?? I should have brought mine.
So then I have to do this calebration thing---look with your eyes left, right, up, down, flex left ankle, flex right, make snoring noises, take a breath and hold it, do it again but move your stomach up and down. Good night. Seriuosly like 30 minutes later (and I am sleeping) I hear again "look left with your eyes, now right etc." I roll over and the nose thing falls out, they come and fix it. Now I am tangled in all the wires and laying on the wire attached to my leg. I can't move because of these things and am so uncomfortable. Then the nose thing comes out again.
Finally morning comes and I hear "look left, look right" and I do it. She says she will be right in. 40 minutes later I hear again "look left, look right." She comes in (I am annoyed because I could have slept 40 more minutes because I was soooo tired). Apparently she said she needs to have the maintentance guy look at the outlets. I was hearing her tell the other patient to look left etc. She said she felt bad seeing my monitors going off that I was doing it and I didn't have to.
They take all the 20 wires glued to my head off, I throw on my headband and am out the door. After I am home for a bit I go to take a shower. 'Cause yeah----my headband is glued to my head!!!!!!!!! I thought I was going to have to cut my hair all off. So I had to shower with my headband on 3 times to get it off.
Man I hope they don't make me go back. She said when I was on my back I had a few episodes of the apnea, but that was it and it was mild. She said it would be up t the doc whether they want me to go back and do one with a cpap. I am hoping I can pass my nutrition stuff soon and move forward with the process so I don't have to get one.
Sorry---I had to gripe somewhere :)
I ended up having 2 sleep studies also, the second with a CPAP. I was so glad I did because after the second one the guy said that I had a mild case of sleep apnea so it was up to me whether or not they ordered me a machine. I knew sleep apnea was a big reason for insurance approval for gastric bypass so I said yes. At the time they sent in for my insurance approval all they could find that was major was pre-diabetes and sleep apnea. If I didn't go to the second study and get the CPAP I might have been denied. It's been 3 months since surgery and I don't use it anymore. They said they will schedule a follow-up study at 6 months but when they call I'm going to tell them I haven't been using it.
After my first study I had to get right home because my husband was waiting to go to work so I didn't take a shower at the sleep place. The only thing was I forgot I had to get gas on the way home or I wasn't going to make it home. I had to go in the store to pay for gas with all that dried goop in my hair!! Nobody said anything but I can imagine what they were thinking LOL.
Anyway, it might turn out for the better if you have to have another study.

I too have had two sleep studies. My apneas only happen in REM sleep and I am on a Bi-pap machine. You may want to reconsider when they call you for a follow up test. I was told that in Maine if you are in an accident and they can detirmin that you are sleep deprived (because it has been diagnosed) not only can your insurance refuese to pay but you may be facing legal charges as well similar to DWI. I personally cant wait until I can get rid of my machine as well. I end up swallowing lots of air and wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach of gas. I did bring my own pillow to both of the studies and that made it easier for me to sleep.
I have a magic bullet and i use it for mixing my prtoein ( i use Isopure ) the only problem i had was that it leaked but i found i needed to make sure the seal was in place :)
I also had a sleep study done and found that i was okay with only minimal apnea which didnt warrent a machine at night. I was greatly relieved....... Now that my wight has dropped I have been told my loud snoring is much better ..... It was a fun experience and I was afraid I wouldnt sleep but I snored all night long !!!!
