Kathy, I started exercising when I was 3 months post op. I had complications after surgery, so I didn't start to feel good until around that time. I tried to get to the gym 3 to 4 times a week. I think it helped with the loose skin, when I exercised while I was losing the weight. I also bought a stationary bike to ride while I watched TV at home. Watching tv or listening to my MP3 player while I rode my bike helped make the time go by so much more faster and made it fun. I'd look at the distance and I would of rode 5 miles and it felt like I had just started riding. I'm 16 months post op now and below my goal weight and I have stopped going to the gym because I don't want to lose anymore weight, when I finally get the the point where I can maintain my weight without losing anymore, I plan on going back to the gym again. When I was at the gym I started out with 15 minutes of cardio then did strength training for 30 minutes then 15 more minutes of cardio. The longer you go the stronger you will get and you will be able to up the length of time you do cardio and strength training. I recommend doing both. I lost a lot of muscle in my arms and legs before I started exercising because I wasn't getting in the protein I needed (and I lost some hair because of this) and the strength training helped me regain some of the muscle I had lost.  I hope this helps, Merry Christmas, ~dori~ P.S. Don't forget to get in your protein and water when your exercising.

hi Kathy, I just joinned the ultimate 1000 min challenge.  boy that is tough for me, 45 mins a day, 6 days a week.  but I'm always up to a challenge.  I get bored easy, so I am going to do 15 mins in the morning on my glidder, then 30 mins walk at the Auburn Mall.  I can't wait for nice weather, I prefer not walking around alot of people and I'm sure their will be alot there at the mall after NYears and all.  well, gotta get my morning 15 in. hhehe, good luck

I to need to get a regular fitness program going . I have not done anything since the Holidays. I am fortunate to have a treadmill at work so I walk for about 1/2 hr 4 times a week . I do not go fast at all and am working towards increasing speed and duration. I have problems with my shoulder so find that resistance training hurts a lot. My new goal is to do 5-6 times a week up to at least 45 min/day. I am also going to look at joining a local group that exercises in the augusta area. Since I have also hated exercise I have to work up to this ... Good Luck
