Hi Everybody....I just wantd to introduce myself....I have been on the Lapband board since June '07 when I had my surgery....last week I was in Bangor, and I will be moving there after Christmas.... right now I live on Cape Cod---anyway, I called the EMMC to see if they will take me as a new patient to do my fills and follow my care....I am waiting for their reply...right now I travel to Boston from the Cape, and when I move there is no way I can do that trip!!  Anyone have any suggestions?  Is there anything special I should check out when I move to Maine?  I am pretty excited about it. Thanks, Karen

Welcome to Maine Karen, I am unable to help you with things in Bangor (I live near Augusta) but I am sure you will get plenty of responses.  This is a very friendly and helpful group.

Hi Karen. I don't know if EMMC is taking on new post-op patients or not.  I'm new there but so far I like them and I think EMMC is worth the 4 hour drive for me to get there.   Have you checked out their website yet? http://swlp.emmc.org/

Hi Karen, Welcome to the Maine forum.  We have a great group and everyone is very supportive! I am sorry, that I can't help you answer your question as I had RNY in Portland.

Welcome to Maine! I wish I could list off a ton of fun and interesting things for you to do in the Bangor area but sadly I can't, I've lived here all my life so I think that is part of the problem. When spring comes around there are lots of great parks and walking trails, Bar Harbor is nice and is only about an hour and a half away. If I can think of other things I will let you know, oh and there is an art museum downtown plus lots of neat little stores. Good luck on getting accepted as a patient of Dr. Toder, she is the only one here that does lap band. and I am not sure what her policy is on taking on post op patients. Sadly I think you will find there are not many lap banders in the Bangor area as the results EMMC has had with it are not great and from what I hear they don't like to do it. None the less, welcome and goodluck!

Welcome to the Maine board. I am from Saint Albans, Things here are pretty slow with the snow unless like me you like to snowmobile, I just had a pair of cross county skies giving to me so that will be fun to try..Maine is great slower pace then Mass. EMMC is a a great hospital with a great weight loss program. Good luck  Barb

Hi....thank you all for your replies.....Dr. Toder and EMMC won't take me as a patient....I am trying a place in Augusta, but I also guess I won't mind going to Boston if it comes to that because they have a great program where I went.  I am moving because I am going back to school to become a vet tech....yikes, even at the old age of 47 I am going to try to do what I have always wanted to do!! I'll just take it one day at a time.....thanks.  Karen

I do believe that the bariatric center in Augusta takes transfer patients.  I would definately contact them to find out.  I have been very happy with them.  Also they hold support groups once a month in Waterville as well as the others in Augusta.  (Waterville is between Bangor and Augusta).  Good luck.
