I have started my pre op diet.... I'm not used to counting calories, always did Weigh****chers (much easier) hope I get use to this, anyway.  can anyone tell me how many cal a day I should be having to loose pre op weight.  I must say, there was alot of talk about  post op diet, I'm lost for pre op diet.  I can't do 600 cal a day now, or am I expected to?  my belly is to big for that. hehe any help would be appreciated. thanks, ahead of time.  does it matter how much carbs I have??  sorry, i'm so thick?

Are you talking about a pre-op diet right before surgery or dieting before your "official pre-op diet" (if your Dr. has one)?   Blessings, Yvonne

oppps sorry, I should have made that clear.  I am talking about just loosing the 10% weight. So maybe I was thinking they were gonna give me a diet???  so maybe i'm on my own then,  I was just wondeirng if the nut wanted me to write everything in my journal she was gonna pick it apart, and I wanted to do it right.  but she didn't give me how much or what to eat??? so I just need more structure even if I knew how many calories, that would help.

The amount of calories you intake should be based on your weight, height, etc.  Your nutritionist can give you the best info to help you obtain your goal to meet your surgery requirements.  She should also be able to give you the break down for the calories....such as percentage of fats, sugar, etc.   Everyone's body is different and we all have different starting points.  You don't want to send your body into shock or starvation mode.  I'm sure your Nutritionist won't mind you asking these questions....call or email her today.   Also remember, that more muscle burns more calories, so if your able, up your exercise and you'll see results quicker.  Keeping a food journal will also help you keep track of what works and help your nutritionist know how to help you stay on track.  Good Luck.  We'd love to know what the final answer from your nutritionist is and what your plan is to reach your goal, so please share.   Blessings, Yvonne

I'm 5'2" and started at 232 pounds. I started with 1400-1500 calories a day. After my one on one with my NUT she recommended I stick to 1200-1400. I have dropped 12 pounds since October with 11 more to go. For me to maintain my weight I should eat about 1700-1800 a day. I'm sure if you can be around 1400 to start that would be awesome.

Good luck. Writing everything down is a pain but it's a great guide to know where you need to tweek your eating.

sooooo thankful, great, all I had to go by was how many cal in a day post op, and I was like , wow, I don't know if that is too low of cal pre op.  NOw I have a number!  thank you.  I had 1350 yesterday, so I was on target.  I am writing everything, I am used to that, just have to look everything up for now, but that will get easier.  this is very doable, thank you so much, have a wonderful holiday.
