Dr. Clough

Dr Clough is a great surgeon. I know he has the most experience in the area and that gave me great comfort. I am not sure what the highest bmi is he operates on but I agree with Barb and would call and talk directly with his nurse. Good luck in whatever you decide. BTW... it didn't take me long to get in to see him. And I didn't have to lose any weight but that might be based on your bmi?

I've heard that Dr. Clough has a hard time saying no to people when it comes to surgery. That could be why you know people who have more than 60 BMI and have had surgery with him. I'm not sure what your total weight is and not asking you tell but the issue might also be that the OR tables have a weight limit. I can't remember what it is but I do remember being told about it and being told some patients do have to lose more weight in order to do the surgery because of this. Also, all WLS patients are high risk simply due to our weight and associated issues, the more weight you can lose before surgery the safer your surgery will be, it will be less stress on your body and easier to operate with less fat cells in and around your organs. You can try to get in to see Clough and or talk to him, like I said, I have heard he does make exceptions but I am not sure how you would go about sort of bypassing the system to get to him first. Good luck on whatever you decide!

Thank you all for your reply.  Please believe that I am not trying to get out of losing any weight at all.  I am willing to do what ever it takes.  I understand all the risks associated with WLS and understand why they ask that patients try and lose some weight before surgery.  I am just searching around for other options that may require me to lose less than 100lbs.  Thanks again.

I went to yesterdays orientation and support group meeting.  At the orientation Lynn mentioned the center doesn't do surgery on anyone over 60 bmi.  HOWEVER in the"blue notebook it says Dr. Clough's upper bmi limit is 80.   I thought the idea of shrinking the liver was for lap and not necessely open.  It's my understanding if your liver is too large it will be in the way for lap.  I suppose it would still be good to shrink it.  I mean after all we all want to do everything we can do to make the surgery easier, right?

I believe, and I could be wrong as I had lap and not open, that the liver has to be moved to the side no matter what because it partly covers your stomach. But now that it's been brought up I'm going to have to research and see because it will bother me if I don't know lol.
