I cant stop smoking !!!I am on Chantix and my quit date has come and gone.I have cut back a lot but cant seem to say no more.Thats whats holding me back in my surgury.I have to be smoke free for 3 months.when I dont smoke.I want to eat.I dont know what to do.If I cant control my smoking how the heck can I control the food issues ? I want to and I should just do it cold turkey.I go a little while , then I cheat and have one.

Keep trying, I know its very difficult to quit, I'm on Chantix also and quit on Aug 2. I only wanted to smoke during the storm while I was driving. Please keep trying. Its worth it. I feel a lot better. When you want to smoke go brush your teeth than you won't want to smoke, now you have great breath. I also picked and date and stuck to it. Try to break the pattern when and where you smoked. I always smoked in my car and outside I never smoked in my new home. That helped.
Now I just enjoy my decaf coffee and water in the car. One day at a time.

When I quit smoking i chewed alot of cinamon gum or hot ball something with cinamon all the time dont know why it helped but it did. I also had a tooth pick in my mouth.. when I was driving in the car where i loved to smoke I would sit on my hand until I got out.. it is a hard thing to do is quit smoking I think harder than quitting eating.. It has been 8 years now and I quit cold turkey.. best thing I have ever done.. I tried a cigerate a 5 months ago and wow gross cant even believe I use to love to smoke.. Just keep trying
Hang in there Lindsay. I know you can do it. You have determination to get healthier and this is part of the process. Suck on a sugar free mint, go for a walk, take a nap, do housework, etc. Do whatever you have to to get your mind off it. I know this is a very difficult thing to conquer but I know you can do it.
Hi Lynz_Joy,
Quitting smoking is definately a hard one. I took Chantix for 3 months.....but I still really, really, really want to smoke.
My pcp gave me a couple of behaviour modification suggestions - 1) buy some dried hot chili peppers and keep some with me or in places where I smoked - every time I wanted a butt - grab and pepper and suck on it. 2) Write a note to someone - tell them that you will pay 1000.00 to them if you start smoking again.....about the cost of smoking for a year.
Not all the same things work for all people, so these are only suggestions for you - good luck!
