Hello everyone, I'm wondering who here has had Dr. Loggins?  I was originally scheduled to see Dr. Cobean but I can't even get an appointment until February or March of next year with an estimated surgery of July or August.  I called Dr. Loggins office yesterday and they called me back today with my first appointment October 12th.  So what I'd like to know is everything about him, success rate, deaths, complications, what should I expect for appointments, how long does the process take, how long is the recovery?  I really appreciate all your input. Thanks so much!

Thanks MainePam.  Bangor is 3+ hours away.  I was hoping to find someone closer and I don't want to wait 8 months for my first appointment which is was I was running into with Dr. Cobean.  I appreciate you giving me his name.  I'll keep that in mind if I don't feel comfortable with Dr. Loggin.

I just had my RNY with Dr. Loggins on September 10th. I know he has never had a death and everyone in his support groups are more than pleased with his performance. As far as appointments you'll have your first one, then meet one on one with the nutritionist Corrine every month until she clears you. They have you do labs and tests such as sleep studies, EKG, upper GI, etc that pertain to your health. My first appointment was April 13th so it took me 5 months from start to finish but another person I know only took her a little over 2 months so I think it all depends on your health. The recovery time was excellent, you stay in the hospital 2 days, he does a contrast swallow test to make sure everything is tight and no leaks and as long as that comes out good they start you on fluids if you can tolerate them then you can go home. On my 4th day after surgery I went to the mall shopping for shoes for my daughter. He sent me home with liquid pain meds that I only took 3 times since discharge and that was mostly to help me sleep so there wasn't even any pain afterwards. I just had my 2 week appointment today and he said everything is looking great.   I would tell anyone who was thinking of having surgery with him to go for it, he has excellent bedside manner and truly cares about his patients. When I was in the hospital it was after 10:00 pm and he came in for a visit before her went home just to check to see how I was doing. He and his whole staff are the greatest!!! Hope this helps, Cheryl

Hey Pinky.. I just had surgery with Dr. Loggins on August 13th, and it was great! Dr. Loggins and his staff are truely amazing.. You are going to feel 100% comfortable with him the moment you walk in.. He hasn't had any deaths, and few complications.. I too, was visited by him after 10 pm one evening in the hospital before he went home. During my stay at the hospital, it was almost as though someone was always there. My roomate in the hospital had RNY the same day I did.  Any time since the surgery that I have had questions, Dr Loggins personally calls me back.. If I didn't feel good, he brought me right in no questions asked and did bloodwork just to be cautious! He covers all bases..  Dr Loggins is in the process of making CMMC "A Center of Excellence" for Bariatric Surgery (Nationally recognized!)  And let me tell you what, he is well on his way!  My advise would be to go for your first visit.. (I am confident that you will be pleased and relieved), if you aren't then make the appt with the other Dr.. Remember you are the one in charge, and you are the only one who can make the decision on which surgeon is right for you.. Let us know!!!

My last 9 lbs!! They are the hardest to lose it seems!!!!!

I am two months post-op and had Dr. Loggins as my surgeon. I had started the process with another doctor but was disheartened by his overall manner and that of his staff....not so with Dr. Loggins! He makes you feel right at ease the first time you meet with him and his entire staff is the same way. My first appointment with him was in February and my surgery was on July 30th. During that time I met with the nutritionist Corrine once a month but was told to call anytime if I had a question or concern.  After surgery, Dr. Loggins visited me before heading home for the day. My roommate, who'd also had surgery by him that day, needed extra reassurance and he came back in to see her in the evening. While in the room, he checked on me as well. The day of our discharge my roommate and I were visited by Dr. Loggins and all but two of his office staff. When I jokingly asked who was "minding the fort", one of the mentioned that the receptionists were the only ones left behind! His success rate is excellent with no deaths. Complications can arise although he makes you well aware of what COULD happen and is quite out front with all the information.  He wants you to ask questions if you have any and will address any concerns you have.  Appointments  are never hurried  as  again questions and concerns are addressed without  hesitation.  The process takes as much or as little time per individual. It depends on the insurance company as well as how soon the individual pre-testing can be completed. Recovery? Again, we are all individuals. I was off all pain medication as of 12 hours after surgery (although I was still attached to the pump SHOULD I need it.) I cannot deny that there was a bit of discomfort for me but it was very minimal and I was "biting at the bit" to get back to my daily routines.
