11 Days And Scared!

Well 11 days to go before my surgery and I am getting so scared. I am getting nervous, starting to second guess myself on the whole thing. I know this is probably a very common feeling but it is a hard thing to deal with right before surgery. I am having Dr Clough at EMMC and I know their death rate is like 1 in 500 but I have totally convinced myself that I am going to be the 1 in 500. I know that 1 in every 500 doesnt die from this and that it is the average but still.... (sigh). I am scared that I will lay down too much after surgery and that will cause problems or I will do something I am not suppose to while up and that will cause a problem. Will I eat something and get sick and tear a staple away?... Have I told them all the medical things I was suppose to or did I forget one... I know this is the best thing for me so how can I keep this feelings from overwhelming me? Netti

Netti, Calm down. Dr Clough is one of the best. The phycitrists(I have to learn to spell that some day) I had for my phsyc test was telling me that he had talked to Dr Clough and you could throw any kind of scenario at him and he would say well I would do this or that. NOTHING rattled him. I could not do the epederal because I have so much back problems it just did not work on me. The head nurse in surgery says well then I do not know how you will have the surgery. She went to get Dr Clough he comes in and says no problem we will do this.just as calm as could be. He is one GREAT and knowledgable man. The one guy I worked with happen to be friends with the girl that did die from this surgery at EMMC and I went thru the surgery anyway. I ama firm believer if it is meant to be it will. My surgery before and after everything just fell into place. Yes at 59 and weighing 470 lbs I was scared and not sure of the outcome BUT if I had not had the surgery I was not sure of the outcome. If you believe in God pray about it and put it in his and Dr Cloughs hands. It will not be long and you will be listing all the weight you have lost and how much better you feel. If I remeber right Dr Clough has been doing surgeries since 1970"s and they have done 1,000 s of the surgeries over the years and have lost 2 patients and both those cases had other things going on. I am sure it is not 1/ 500. Check it out and see Pam

Pam- I also have very serious back issues.. Does that mean I won't be able to get the epideral also? How do they know whether they can do it or not? What do they do if you can't have the epideral? How long ago did you have your surgery? And you haven't had even the slightest problem due to the surgery?  When did you get it done?

Thanks, Netti

Your darn tootin that I am second guessing everything. I mean after this surgery I am going to be doing EVERYTHING completely different from how I have ALWAYS done them. It is a lot to grasp in ones mind when deciding on the surgery not to mention when you get right down to the nitty gritty.

In life I have made my fair share of mistakes and I guess I am afraid I will continue after the surgery and its all gonna blow up in my face.

Guess I better start convincing myself that its a new start all the way around.Glad to see your doing so well on losing. How's everything else going for you?

How do I get one of those tickerfactory weight things?

Take care...Netti

Thanks Yvonne, Did you also have the epideral? Is that something everyone has done? I can't remember dr. clough mentioning it, but he could have. Netti

Netti the epideral is a great a thing Dr. clough uses it all the time. I thought it was going to be bad because i have had 2 back surgeries, but wow what a difference it made for me. I did not even remember them putting it in.  Just tell the nurse at the hopsital that you want happy meds and off you will go,. everyone is great there at EMMC.  Everything is going good right now but Im not getting in enough protein or water but nurtrish said i was doing great keep up with what ever im doing. the most thing i eat is toast/w peanut butter, ravioli, peaches, just started eating chili
