Our daughter is 4 years old and I want to explain to her whats going to happen with the hospital and afterwards but not sure what to say. Does anyone have a child about that age and what did you say to them?

I don't want to get into too much detail and scare her but I don't want her to be confused about it either. We're going to have her start school a week late so she won't be going while i'm in the hospital. While I'm gone her Aunt is going to watch her during the day while my husband works. I'm not worried about that because she absolutely lover her Aunt. Any suggestions welcome, Cheryl

I have a four year old son. I told him what was going to happen to me and why it needed to happen, he was wonderful and very understanding for his age, I told him that I needed to have an operation so I would live for a long time and be healthy and soon I would be able to run and play with him outside. He was just fine with it, he stayed with my parents while I was in the hospital. He has been very good through the whole thing, he knows that he has got to be real careful around my belly and he has got to pick his toys up because I cannot bend over(I should have done this when he was 2!!)he is real good about picking them up. I was right up front with him from the beginning, showed him where the stomach is(diagrams, not colored pictures)and how big it was and how small mine was going to be. He has been fine through the whole thing, he asks a lot of questions, but that is a good thing!!! Good luck with your surgery!!! Kids understand better than we think they do!!haha
