Surgery Over - Home Again!
Hi Everyone,
I'm home at last but still struggling. My RNY Gastric Bypas was Friday morning. I stayed an extra day in the hospital because I was feeling so sick, but got to come home Tuesday afternoon. Since being home, I've been naseauous , hungry (what???), have had hungar pangs, squirming and growling , can't sleep , emotional , etc. I know this is temporary but it certainly trys my patience at times.
We have a 2 week post-op diet of protein shakes mixed with water, jello, broth and water. None of which was going down well. I got so frustrated that late last night I warmed up some tomato soup mixed with skim milk and had a few small spoonfuls. Amazingly, it calmed my stomach right down. I emailed the Bariatric Center and then talked with them this morning and got permission to change the post-op diet a bit. Since the soup worked so well, they suggested that I eat 2 oz. of it and then try making my protein shakes with skim milk and can add a small amount of flavoring and try drinking this a little after having the soup to see if my stomach is calm enough then to get the shake in. I tried it this morning and this afternoon and it seems to be working so far. Yeah!
My poor husband had to deal with my irritable mood the last few days due to my not being able to tolerate any liquids. But he's an Angel and supported me through it. Tonight he is going to cook some homemade chicken soup from a recipe we got from the Bariatric Center. We'll skim off the broth and see if I can tolerate eating that. The family will eat all the goodies though! *Sigh LOL
Good news....I weighed myself this morning and lost another 4#!!! Okay, now I can quit whining about everything else! LOL
Thank you for all your support through this process. I am soo blessed to have found this site and all of you! If you have any other ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them!! TIA
Blessings, Yvonne
Just remember the first few weeks are temporary. It DOES get better. Just take it slow get as much fluids and protein as you can it will all come together later. I was a nervous wreck in the beginning because I could not get all I needed to, then they told me don't worry you won't in the beginning.
Enjoy your new journey !!
