Does anyone have aetna insurance and if so, did it cover bypass surgery and was it difficult to be approved? I'm just changing insurances and want to know before I sign on the dotted line if surgery will likely be covered.
Aetna does cover the surgery. But it also depends on the individual policy. The Policyholder (your job) may have an exclusion to it. Your best bet would be to call them. I was denied by them in 2003 for lack of documentation of a failed 6 Month diet program. So make sure you find out exactly what they require and make sure your doctor documents it every time you see him or her. Also find out what they require for the frequency of seeing your doctor, weekly, monthly etc. At the time I had to have documentation of 6 month failed diet and exercise program.
I have Aetna and they were ok w/ my lap RNY. I had to see nutrionist 3 times and the program only called for 2 visits. Also needed 5 years of documented weight loss attempts, and overall health condition or complications. This is one time the more wrong with you the better.
It took 2 days for approval once everything was submitted.
I would question if they have any previous condition riders/exclusions or things like that, other than that you shuld be okay w/ them.
