self pay costs?

Hi everyone. I Was just wondering if any of you had gotten Lap Band and had to do self pay?? If so, could you tell me what the costs were. From what I've read so far on other boards and profiles, it averages $15,000-$17,000. Is that right? I emailed Dr. Cobean's office with this question and I can not wait to hear back!! But if any of you may know, I'd also LOVE to hear from you! THANKS!!!! Take care. Julie

Hi Julie, I noticed that no one has replied yet, but hopefully you've heard back from your Bariatric Center by now. I'm having the Gastric Bypass Surgery so the cost is different, usually by about $10,000. A friend of mine who just had the GBP from the same center I'm going through told us that the surgery bill he just received was for $37,000 and that wasn't all inclusive....like repeat Dr. visits, etc. Neither surgery is cheap......which is another great reason to do it right the first time! Hi Yvonne. Thanks for responding. I actually got an email from the surgeon's office last night. His fee is $4410 and does not include fees for any complications that may arise. I now need to contact the hospital and find out what their fees are. So, getting ready to see if they ask for just the right arm or if they need a leg too. Hell, if they charge by the pound, I'd have 'em paid of if no time. LOL But seroiusly, I am nervous to hear what they have to say. Like you said, the surgery is NOT cheap regardless of what option we pick. I'll keep this updated as I get more information. Take care. Julie
