My second post every.  I am currently 260 5'5 and as they all have said for years oh really you dont look it you carry it well, in other words big all over..   I do feel like this place is another world, where there is understanding and a special bond, thanks for taking the time to respond..  I am so inspired and encouraged by  hearing everyones ~Journey~  I have my surgeon appt.  tuesday wooo.. I am leaning toward lap band as my story states the risks for me I feel its a better choice, but I'm still learning everyday.. never can know enough when you  make this kind of choice. and use these kind of tools..     I have Maine Care Disability and I have heard from some posting that it may not cover lap band but does cover gastric bypass.. Anyone KNow I appreciate your time and attention.. ScEnTeD BlEsSiNgs~  Allicca

Hi Allicca (Al-lick- ah), I'm Sheli (Shelly) I think we are going to meet on thursday. I am going to the Bariatric Process meeting on the 28th too. You will be my first person from here that I will meet in person (that I didn't already know.)
So I just wanted to say HI and wish you all the best of luck in your journey. It has felt like a long wait but I only started in February and I am (hopefully) being sent out for insurance approval next week. Hoping for August Surgery...They said that Dr Trieu is moving along quickly with his patients this summer (gosh I hope that's true!)

Sheli

ps- if they refer you to H P Maine in Waterville for your psych eval, give them a day or two to get the referral then call to set up your appointment. I waited, and waited and waited for them (hp maine) to call me and after 3 weeks I called them and they had to search the "drawer" for my referral...I guess they don't feel the need to move in a timely fashion..they also take at least 3 weeks to send in their report...no hurrying them. So far it has been the most irritating part of my process.

Welcome to the group Allicca!   I'm in the Gastric Bypass process with Dr. Trieu.  My journey started last August and 2 denials ago.  We switched insurance companies on June 1st and I was approved for the GBS in 1 day!   Since I've been a bit out of the loop since February I 'll be seeing the nutritionist for a refresher & my first appt. with Nate on 7/10.  My final consult with Dr. Trieu and my 2nd appt. with Nate is on 7/17.  From there I will get my surgery date....takes about a week for them to coordinate surgery scheduling and give you a date.  Then it's the wonderful 2 weeks of pre-op Protein Shakes and pre-admission tests.  I'm hoping for the first week of August or near there.  Maybe we'll be surgical pals!  LOL   Good Luck on your journey!  Blessings, Yvonne

Hi Allicca: I was banded last Sept by Dr. McKee.  I have heard great things about the surgeon you are seeing.  Good luck, and you might want to check out the LapBand message board to have more questions answered by some experts.

HI Kim thanks for your support, I have checked the all the boards several times as well as speaking to others and have family members that have had WLS  and decided that for me and my spine and my life style that the gastric by pass would be better forever for me.  Especially after I spoke with surgeon.  Since I have had a blood clot in my lung and have a mutation and allergic to predisone and morhphine just a bunch of other reasons , he address all individually.  I have had a lot of slack you could say from a lot of people in my life and community about the surgery .   As I dont look THAT FAT they say.. Perhaps I'm not as big as I could get, Because I exercise allllllllll my life I have too to maintain 200+.    I have been doing protein shakes and cut my calories to about 700 ish and exercise hardcore cardio and weights within my back limits to get off 14  and it has taken since february..  We all have our reasons , all the way around..  we all need each other, thanks for sharing...           Allicca   p.s. you do not live that far.. he he hope to meet you as well.

Sorry, I thought you said you were being banded. My mistake.  Maybe we'll see each other in the office sometime.
