Surgery questions

Hi. Surgery is in 46.5 hours!!  I'm excited.  I'm also being very tempted with the liquid diet today.  I stayed home from work since my son is ill, and keep finding myself wandering through the kitchen.  I've resisted, but for some reason, today is the hardest it's been.   Oh well...this will be over soon.  A couple of questions... What tubes did you wake up with?  For some reason I'm scared to death of an NG tube. Did they do a leak test before you left the hospital? Did you take your own nightgown?  Several people have said they took them, but I don't see how you could put one on with an IV in your arm. How many nights did you spend there after RNY?  While I know I'll want to go home, I'm also a big sissy, and want to be sure I'm ok before I leave. Any last minute advice?

Hello, I had my bypass on March 28,07 I had to have a blood transfussion so I was in the hospital about 4 days.  I didn't wake up with anything other than an IV i didn't take my own nightie just a robe they test you for a leak by your pulse rate also while you are under they test you.  I was also told that you are normaly only in for 24 hours,  even though I had a bleed it really isn't that bad just walk walk walk that helps get rid of the gas.   good luck tina

First off, good luck, good luck, good luck!!! I know you will do great!!! What tubes did you wake up with?  I woke with two drains sticking out of my side and a catheter. I was a little afraid of a NG tube too, don't know why...never had a reason to think it, I just did...lol Did they do a leak test before you left the hospital? Yes...the morning after surgery. They did one on me during surgery, and also the following morning. Did you take your own nightgown?  I brought one, but didn't wear it...I could have been naked, I didn't care...dressing wasn't high on my priority list. I did brush my teeth and wash my face every day, but ended up wearing home the jammies that I brought. How many nights did you spend there after RNY?  My surgery was at 7:30 on a Monday, and I left the hospital at about 9:30 Thursday morning. My surgeon said that I could stay until Friday if I wanted to, but also said I was fine to go home. I was ready, and we headed out.  Any last minute advice? Not that I can think of that I am sure you haven't already heard, processed and accepted. I was so scared once I was being wheeled to the operating room, and I was in tremendous pain when I woke up. That only lasted a few minutes until I found the pain button...lol. I had "buyer's remorse" for a couple of days because I thought I would feel better than I did, but 4 weeks later, I feel awesome and wouldn't trade a day of discomfort in the hospital for what I have now. Hope this helps, good luck!!!!!
Hugs and Love,
Claudette
