Tina, I consider this site and the msn gastric bypass as my support group and much better..because I can ask more question and get alot of responses.. Dont get me wrong the support group at EMMC is ok but I really like these places. I havent had surgery yet maybe thats why. Barb

Hi Tina, This month was hard with 5 weeks in it and only 2 meetings.  I did go to the 3 month post op meeting last week at the Center so that helped me. How are you doing?  I'm here if you wanna talk. I'm looking forward to next weeks meeting. I hope to see you there. ~dori~

Hi Dori Long time no talk. I had my surgery one week ago and don't know what I should be eating. I had the lap band and would like to know what others eat for their first month. Any one who can help would be great.:) Linda

Hi Linda, How are you feeling? Are you up walking? It took me over a week to be able to walk around much. It did helped me tho when I was able to get up and do some laps in my livingroom. Then sit and rest then do some more. The first month when I was on pureed foods I ate a lot of babyfood. (banana's and peaches were my favorite)  I could only eat a few bites then I was done. I ate mashed potato's, soups/broths. My favorite was a small spoonful of spagetti in the blender with water added to it. I thought I was in heaven eating that. lol I also ate spagetti sauce, yogurt, sf puddings and my protein shakes. It was really hard at first to get all my water in, if you're having trouble, it will come with time. I drink all day now, except 30 minutes before I'm going to eat and I wait 1 hour after I'm done. I'm always watching the clock to see when I can drink again. How is your dad doing in his progress? Does he know when he will have surgery yet. When are you going to another support meeting? Hope to see you and your dad there soon. ~dori~

Yes i've been walking. I had the surgery on a tuesday and by friday night i was able to go shopping for a little bit. I am back to work on my own . Last week my mom and my husband did the day care so i could rest. I guess I am eating about the same as you. soups, yogurt, jello. protein shakes. the water is hard but is getting better.  How long did your left side hurt where the port is? Bending is not easy at all. Dad is still waiting for his surgery date,,,, he is worried it may only be in August because of Dr. Wolff will not be there. What meetings do you go to?  I was told that the post op lap band meetings are in the afternoon and that makes it real hard for me to go to because of the day care.    Linda

Hi Linda, I don't have a port because I had gastric bypass. Both my sides hurt for about 4 weeks. I had huge bruises on both my sides. I had to sleep on my back, proper up with pillows, for 6 weeks before it was comfortable enough to roll to my side with pillows. My husband was so glad when I finally took all the pillows off the bed. I go to the regular support group meetings in scarbrough at the MMC Research building. The same group that you had to attend before your surgery. I like going because I always leave with a little bit more and I enjoyed the groups so much before my surgery, now it's my chance to give back whatever I can to those who haven't had the surgery yet. I've never been to the lap band meeting because I didn't have lap band. I do attend the emotional/behavioral group at the Bariatric Center for 3 months or more post ops. I enjoy that group too. I hope your dad's wait isn't to long. I know it feels so long when your on the other side. ~dori~

Linda, I hear ya on the meeting times.  They stink.  I cant go on an afternoon for sure.  And Tuesday nights are no good because that is the night my husband works late.  I only went to the one of those that I was required to go to so I could get surgery.  I'd like to go to a Lap Band meeting sometime but doesn't look like I can unless they change it to an evening. I find a lot of support on here and even more so in the regular OH Lap Band Forum...not just this local one for Maine.  There is someone there all the time and I get answers lickety split.

Hi girl...hope you're feeling well!  I can't tell you much in regards to lap band but in the first few weeks after my own surgery I was on liquids.  After the ok to have soft foods custard, crustless quiche, protein drinks, protein balls (made with peanut butter), beans with melted cheese (I use only low fat or preferrably non fat cheeses),yogurt... I was lucky.. I could eat any kind of meat...hamburg can be cooked in so many ways!  Chili is a staple ... cooked with turkey burger..... hope this helps!

Remember....when life hands you Lemons, ask for tequila and salt and call me over!
