question

my doctor already gave me my referral and now i have to pick a surgeon...my question is this do i pick a surgeon and then submit my letter to mainecare or what are the steps?? i am really confused!!!!!...

Did your doctor give you a referal to a specific office? (that is the usual type of referal) If so, some offices have more than one Surgeon and some only have one. My referal was to a practice with 3 surgeons, they all seem well trained and my decision was based on who had open appointments soonest. I called them, went to an info meeting, then called and they had my referal from my PCP and my records and I was able to get in for my intial consult within a few weeks. If you have to choose the office and surgeon then let them know who you are seeing you have 2 choices (I think) Dr Todder in Bangor or Maine Bariatrics (3 surgeons) in Augusta. You could also drive to Lewiston or Portland and have a few more choices. If this is your type of referal call all the places and see who you feel more comfortable with on the phone. You can tell a lot about a doctor by their office staff. Hope that helps! Sheli
