Cold

Hi, I had my surgery December of last year and have lost 70 pounds (iI'm only 4'10") so that is a lot for my height. I have felt the cold a lot more this year than before. My husband says it is because I have less "padding" and therefore feel the cold more than before. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this greater sensitivity to the cold since losing their weight. Sharon

Hi Sharon, I had my surgery on July 13, 06 and have lost 85 lbs and I'm always freezing. At work I wear a sweater and use a throw blanket. This from the person who used to use a fan at work and home even in the winter. I used to wear very little to bed and now sometimes wear long flannel pj's socks and slipper socks. I'll take the cold over the old weight and health problems anyday. The heating bill is a little crazy this year though. LOL Take care, Ann

Hi Ann, Thanks for the reassurance that I am not alone. I do some substitiute teaching and wear an insulated underwear top, long sleeved turtleneck , sweater , and tights under my slacks. Outside recess and bus duty are really the pits even with my down ski jacket. I am impressed by your weight loss, it is terrific. I have been buying most of my clothes at Goodwill and Red Cross outllets.I got a never worn, still has tags on it Bill Blass vest at Goodwill yesterday for $10 which is more than I usualy pay for anything I get there but a lady was trying it on and it was too small for her and she looked at me and said "This would fit you and look great." I couldn't resist since it is reversible with a silky solid color and a furry side. Now if they would just standardize the sizes of womens clothes so that you had some idea of what size to buy it would be great. I have everything from a size 10 to 18 in my closet and they all fit. I also bought a small electric space heater for our den because it is at the end of the house and the farthest from the furnace and I am always cold when in there even when I wrap up in my wool throw blanket. I know about the heating bill. My husband turns the thermostat down and I turn it back up. We used more than half a tank, 140 gal, of fuel in a month. Take care, Sharon

Trust me you are very normal; I had surgery in March 06 and this winter has been the pits for me with the cold. I was always hot, I could not wear sweaters, turtlenecks, hated jackets, etc. Now bring them on; I have a small heater at work for my office because I am always cold and I have a sweater everywhere that I go. I have been told that you do adjust and this won't last forever. Congratulations on your weight loss. Juli

Thanks Juli. Always nice to know that you aren't alone. Today I am HOT because I get 1000mg prednidolone IV every 7 weeks for my MS and I go from freezing to boiling for about 24 hours. I think cold is easier to deal with than being hot. You can only shed so many clothes but you can always add another layer it you are cold. Hang in there and cover up. Sharon

Hi Sharon, I am already sensitive to the cold....I think I better go to Florida for a year after my Lap-Band surgery. I am the same stature as you....4'11" and right now I weigh 280. I have rheumatiod arthritis and the cold weather is horrible for me. I'm hoping that things will be better after the weight is gone. I will be signing my consent forms on March 5th. Then I don't know how long after that before I'm scheduled for surgery. Not too long, I hope. I just live down the road from you. I live in Windham. I have a lifetime friend who lives in Naples. She ownes Kents Landing just above the causway. Her name is Helen Dingley. She and my mom have been friends for about 60 yrs. Well, stay bundled up and keep warm and healthy. :-)

Hi Joelene, Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I started with a weight of 205 but at lost about 30 pounds by the time of my surgery by cutting sugar out of my diet. I currently weigh 130 and am at a plateau that won't budge. Yesterday I went to my rheumatologist and my fibromyalgia is so improved that I don't have to go back to him anymore. I have some osteo arthritis in my shoulders that Naprosyn seems to keep in check now that I have been over my surgery for a year and can start taking it again as long as I take it with food. I had breast reduction in 1990 because it was causing so much pain in my back and shoulders. Went from an overflowing DD do a C cup and now wear a B cup. Yes I know Helen. You probably know me if you ever shopped at CVS in the past. I was a pharmacy tech there for 13 years. I am looking forward to warmer weather since this sensitiivity to cold is suppose to pass. I sure hope so.
