Just had first meeting with Dr. Wolff 1-29-07
Hi,
I just had my first meeting with the team on Monday 1-29-07 It went very well. The Dr. was very nice. I didn't know which surgery I wanted but when the Dr. came in she would like me to have the Lap one done. Because of my history with surgery she felt that one would be better for me. The social worker went well. She wanted me to write down a journal, well I guess I didn't understand her well. I wrote down everything I ate and the times. But what she wants to know is how I am feeling while I am eating. The Dietitian wants me to eat more veg. and milk. she did talk about a test at the next team meeting. Does anyone know what kind of questions will be asked???
Also does your support person have to go the team meeting?
Linda
It is best for your support person to go to all of your appointments - this way if you miss something the support person will have the information. I had Dr. Cobean and he insists that your support person be with you every step of the way.
The test should be on the packet that you were given concerning how much protien you should be eating, water, etc. At least that was what happened when I went in.
Good luck
Juli
There was no question of not being accepted. As long as we do our homework they send us home with. I find the social worker the hardest to do with all the questions, and the journaling. The only thing that would stop us would be the insurance. Even if you don't past your oral test with the dietitian on one of the next meetings which I have not had then from what I've heard she will let you take it again... but they say the test isn't as bad as we think .
I do have to say that they are ALL VERY NICE THERE. My dad and I were 45 minutes late for our second meeting (because we got lost LOL) They still took the two of us for our appoitment. Me and my dad are both going for WLS.
I hope I answerd your question
Linda
Hey again!
Yep! You answered it...and removed some fear. I have t his fear of them thinking I'm a hopeless case and not accepting me. Or of the social worker saying I need to wait a year and have therapy first. (MY fear there is twofold...1. I just want to do it now, and 2. My cmpany is talking about changing health insurance in July, and I'm afraid of them getting a company who is hard to work with on WLS.)
Thanks again!!
Jeannie
Don't worry they would never say you are hopeless. And you shouldn't think of yourself as that because no one is ever hopeless no matter how big or thin you are. I don't know how long it takes to have the surgery. My first appointment was Jan 29, my next team meeting isn't till April 2, so there is time between. I don't know if the April meeting is the one if they send it to the insurance and see if I get accepted.
There are so many things that can slow the process down. For example the dietitian with the oral test, the social worker in wanting you to go for counseling, the Doctor in wanting you to loose weight, and the insurances.
But you know the thing is not to worry too much over it. Take it as it comes. Because it is not good to stress yourself.
good luck and stay in touch
Linda
Jeannie, I was told that the oral test was going to be hard and tricky! I was so scared, but I studied the handouts the nutritionist gave us, and basically she runs down the list of the items on that page. If you have read & studied then, don't worry, you'll be able to finish her sentences for her. It was a snap!!! Don't overlook any part of the nutrition pages. They want to know that you know what you should be eating, what you should take for vitamins, what can trip you up in your progress, if you study, no problems!
If I could do it, you can!

Hi I just thought that I would help you with some reassurance. My first appt. was 10-06 and I just signed consent on3-05-07 which means my paper work will know be submitted for insurance approval, then they have 30 days that they can play with . you have to jump through all the hoops first then you sign consent then they send it to insurance then up to 6wks for surgery I am just waiting a date like a child waiting for christmas but it will all be worth it in the end tina
