Hello!! How long were you at the center for your first visit? Did your spouse have to be there for the whole day, or just the A.M. class? What was their psych eval like? Did you feel like they wanted to do this for you, or that they were looking for excuses not to approve you? I'm more than a tad nervous, can you tell??? Thanks! Jeannie 8 days till consult

Hi Jeannie, Your spouse is there for the class, and your meeting with your surgeon. They don't have to be there for the Nutrish or the psych, buy they don't do them in order, class is first then they jumble the group around, so one person is with the dr and one is with the nutrish and one is with the psych, so there is no gaurentee, but you can let them know he has to leave and they are great about that. Just as long as they see them in the class, I think you will be fine. You should be out of there around noon time. It doesn't take all day, just half. I had a great experience with the psych eval and I felt they were there to help, not to hinder. They gave me a list of LCSW and I didn't want to call one at first and got very nervous and upset about it, in my mind, but I realized they were there to help not hinder but I can only speak for my own experience. I felt like I had to say everything just right or they would reject me. I don't know if anyone has had a bad experience with the eval? The best advice I can give is just relax.

If you don't mind me asking...did they tell you you HAD to see a counselor before they would proceed? That's my big fear...getting delayed because they think I need help.

Jeannie, They told me that I didn't need therapy in particular but suggested that I find one because it never hurts to continue the healing process and having someone to talk to. They asked me if I was willing to go to one and out of fear of being rejected I agreed to. The next thing I knew, I had to have my counselor call the center before the center would let me have a second appointment. so the option became a requirement and not for any issues I had in particular. But the good news is, that I only had to see the therapist like 6 times for this particular counselor which is general rule she sets for her barriactric patients and if you go once a week then therapy will be over before your second appointment if your counselor gives you the go ahead. Everyone is different and needs to fix different issues within themselves so I guess she could have said I was not ready, I don't know what would have happened then. I chose to continue with counseling since she has helped me change my life and I don't regret it. It will only make me more successfull in my journey if I am honest with myself and my counselor. Unfortunatly I don't know anyone elses experience with this, or what would have happened if I said I really didn't want to go. I do know that they give you a list of counselors you can call and they work with alot, so that makes it easier. c
