2 week starvation diet
I just started my 2 wk pre-op diet 3 days ago and I feel like crap! I'm having 3 protein shakes a day, 1 multi vitamin, dill pickles by the jar full, sugar free jello and raw veggies. This TOTALLY sucks! Today is my 3rd day and my body aches and all I want to do is sleep to forget about my hunger. Has anyone else gone through the 2 wk pre-op diet for the lap band? I could really use some encouragment.

Are you eating 3 oz of chicken and 1c cooked veggies at night? I have been on several fasts (including the preop 2wks for RNY)(the longest one was for 40days) and I found that the 1st one was the worst and they get better with time. Your body is detoxifying the first few days and that is why you feel so bad. It gets better after a few days and you end up with more energy. Not that I am suggesting you eat less but personally I found that the less I ate, the less hunger pains I felt because I was not restreaching my stomach and then restarving each day, also your digestion will shut down between meals if you are not snacking on veggies - this just keeps your stomach working but producing more digestive juices. I also found lots of water!
Also, make sure you have your bowel movements. It helps get the toxins out. If this is a problem, use stole softeners (colace), not laxatives (can cause diarrah) and drink lots of water.
Don't chew gum. makes you hungrier, makes your stomach produce digestive juices.
You can do this! It will get better in few days. Hang in there.
Hi there...I just had my lap band surgery 7 days ago. I too, had a horrible time on the 2-week diet. It seemed tortorous! I had a Slim-fast shake for breakfast and lunch, and for supper I was able to have a Healthy Choice or Weigh****cher or Lean Cuisine frozen dinner...so having at least one meal a day really help. The thrid day was the hardest for me, and then after that I kind of got use to not eating......which was surprisng to me because I LOVE to eat. LOL Keep your chin up, it does get easier. Good Luck!!!
