Hi everyone..I am 6 days post op. Finally getting alittle more liquids in but for protein, not so good. I eat the No Added Sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast (they only have chocolate at Hannafords where I live) but no variety of flavors. I have eaten cream of chicken soup 4oz:4oz (with water) but after eating it, I got heartburn, and we can't have any antacids now, so I won't be having that soup anytime soon. Tomato soup was too salty for me, maybe I should delute it more??? I have yogart (light -n- fit) and SF Jello, but I need more options..I feel like I may not put anything in if that's all there is because I am NOT hungry, I am eating these few things because I am suppose to. Please if anyone can help with any ideas for me, and anyone else who just been thru surgery or are on their way, please let us know what you did to get different protein in our new pouch! Thanks bunches! Diane

Hi Diane, Congratulations on being 6 days post-op. I had my surgery on Nov. 2, almost 6 weeks out. I prefer Hannaford's normally, but on a hunch went to Shaws and found the No Added Sugar I.B in variety packs with two kinds of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Can't say I like the strawberry, but the two chocolates are ok, and the vanilla can be dressed up with a little more vanilla extract. I take plain, fat-free yogurt (Smithfield Farms and Dannon are the best) and add a little Splenda and a little vanilla extract. If it's very cold it's really good. A little later you can add cinnamon which is great. I also took my jello and put the portion of the yogurt mixture on it - yum. I'm looking at my food journal from those days to see what else I ate. I used Slim Fast Lo Carb - like that better than Carnation. I made Cream of Tomato soup by using skim milk (Lactaid) instead of water. And of course I'm now addicted to Sugar Free popsicles. I'm still not eating out of hunger - basically I eat what I can and wait a half hour until I can drink water again. Always thirsty. I liked Cream of Celery and Cream of Mushroom soups. Both made with skim Lactaid. The good thing is, this phase will be over soon, and you'll be on to the next step. I've found it's a hands-on learning experience all the way. No matter how much we prepare and know about what we have to do, experiencing it is another trip. Just keep plugging. Don't get wrapped up in feeling you have to eat everything on your plate - just pay attention to how you're feeling and stop when you think you've had enough. I got into that trap for a while. Oh, and I had weird pains in my left side and felt bloated the first few weeks. You don't say if you had a laparascopic procedure or not, but either way, stuff inside of us was moved around rather violently during the procedure and will take some time to get back to feeling settled. Hope this helps a little. I used these forums also, and they were a great help. Pat

Hi Pat Thanks for the ideas. I went to see Dayna, Dietition, and she let me go to soft foods, thank goodness! I had a scramble egg with little cheese first night and I thought I was in heaven! Last night for supper I had some Wendy's chili, Dayna said that would be okay but not too much. I had the rest at lunch today. I am thirsty a lot too. I feel like I want to gulp the water down to quench the thirst, but I know I better not. I may go to Shaws soon and get at least 1 box of the variety. I need more protein intake. I can start the Women's multi-vitamin (1 day) now and Calcium with Vit D (2 day). Sorry, I forgot to mention I had my surgery Laproscopic and lost a lot of blood. Ended up with jaundice also but that is going away now, but I am so exhausted. I have to try to find the multivitamins with extra iron to see if it will help me. Dayna said it may be hard to find but it's out there. Thanks for replying to my post...seems like the board is really quiet, I understand the time of year must have something to do with it. Well, take care, and keep in touch, Diane
