Anyone out there self pay???
HI Kathy, I'm a self-pay. Ijust had my surgery on the 3rd. Just a couple of days out now. I live in South Ga. and my total bill was $15,980. My doc. gives a special price for self-payers and this includes the workshops, psych., a lifetime of 24/7 with the nutritionist and a lifetime availability of the gym at the hosp. I live 80 miles away so won't be bale to use the gym but am extremely happy with my doc. He (personally)called me twice yesterday at home to check on me. I'm very happy so far.

Kathy,
Please don't go the "self pay" way. This is major surgery and although most are successful, there are stories like what my husband has lived through the past 10 months.
He had his surgery (first surgery in his life) on December 1, 2005. They told us it would cost about $25,000. His surgery took 10 hours and ended up costing $106,000 (and we are still racking up medical costs because of the complications). Because the surgery was so long, he has permanent ulnar nerve damage in both arms from the elbows to the ends of his ring and little fingers with a lot of pain. He has lost 100# (down to 245 lbs) but traded the weight loss for a lifetime of pain and disability.
So, although most of the surgeries go well, there can be complications........and to be truthful with you, I would hate to commit to paying for it myself.
Good luck to you..........Pam
