hypothyroidism

I just went to seminar last night; I have already made the decision to have this done, but one of the things I've read under the criteria is "no disease that can make you gain weight" (ie, hypothyroidism). I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago as borderline and take 100mcg of med, but have been overweight 8-9 years before that. I had my blood tested a couple times through the years and was not at all hypo. I meet other guidelines: my BMI is 48.9, wt/ht = 276/5'3, and have a strong family h/o obesity, DMII, HTN, and heart disease. I currently do not have any of these co-morbidities...yet. I've also tried diet and exercise several times, but lose and gain again, (I'm sure many of you know how that goes!). I plan to go through Augusta Surgical Associates and I'm just wondering if anyone out there has a similar health profile and how this office handled it. I'm just really worried that I'm going get in there and not qualify because of hypothyroidism. Also, I so badly want to lose weight not only to be healthy, but because I'd like to have another child and I'm scared of the problems that can arise with being more than 100 lbs overweight and pregnant. I appreciate anyones feedback, sorry it was so long, and thank you for reading my post.

I don't know about the Augusta office, but here in Bangor, my thyroid was doing flip flops, first I would be hypo then hyper. It drove my Dr. nuts. It would seem to me, that if you were tested normal, then it shouldn't be any problem with it. Good luck, let me know how you are doing. I was operated on June and so far, I have lost over 34 LB. Feeling better now then I have in years. Keep in touch. Linda
