getting there
Hi Jill:
I am new to the site and I am just reading profiles trying to get to know people on here who live in the same (or approximate) area as I.
I noticed your doctor was Michelle Toder and you were happy with the results. Was she your preference or did you just happen to get her? I requested Michelle (Lap) because of the need to be at work at a quicker time frame.
A girl I know from where I work had surgery but she for some reason had Dr. Clough, something to do with the insurance...??? Maybe but I think it had to do with her previous c-section, but hey, I am not a doctor, lol.
From what I have gathered it is about 3-3.5 mos from time going to info session to date of surgery, is that what you found?
Just wanted to say that after reading your profile, I think you have done a great job, and yes, it isn't easy, but is anything that you really want or wanted ever easy? I know things with me hasn't and I am sure if things were easy, we would take everything for granted.
So, I am gonna close now and hope you have continued success. Diane
Diane,
I requested Dr. Toder because I wanted to have my surgery done lap and not open if at all possible, because I didn't want to have to take a long time off work. I started the process in March and had surgery the end of August, but that was a few years ago. I am not sure what the time frame is now. It seemed to fly by fast though because of all the other appts that I had during the wait time.
Dr. Toder also did a lap exploratory surgery in April of this year on me, found some adhesions and a couple other problems and fixed them, and I was happy with that surgery as well. Crazy thing is, this past surgery I just had was much more painful than my RNY was--which I didn't really expect.
Good luck on your journey, and if there is anything else I can help you with, drop me a line and I will do my best to help. Take care.
Jill
Hi Ann: I am a newbie...Noticed you just had your surgery a few days ago. Hope everything went well, and you are feeling somewhat better today. I have read some that are ready to get up moving a couple days after surgery and others takes alittle more time.
I am just beginning...had info meeting and my first support group at EMMC last week.
Next things are my Nutritional and PT on August 30.
I requested Laproascopic with Dr. Todur. Hope I spelled those correctly, LOL.
Did you have a long wait after these appts before you had a surgery date?
Diane
Diane, I'm now 1 week post op and feeling pretty good. I haven't had any problems with any of the foods on my approved list. The nurses will actually get you up the same day to get the circulation in your legs going. The day after surgery I walked 3 or 4 times, each time increasing the distance a little. I had open with Dr Clough, my appointments went fairly quickly, I think I caught a break with a couple of last minute cancellations that I was very happy to take. My first class/support group appointment was on 3/03/06 and surgery on 7/13/06. I guess there would be alot of factors involved as to how quickly you go through the program. I did not need a sleep study which may have taken more time. Best of luck to you. Feel free to email me if you have more questions.
Ann
Hi Ann: Glad you are feeling well. Bet you are glad to be home in your own bed. The last time I slept in a hospital bed it was almost 17 yrs ago when my daughter was born, but I still remember that the beds are uncomfortable.
I received my appts sheet and I don't have to have a sleep study either so maybe that will speed things along also, but then again, who knows what the insurance company will do to prevent an approval.
I am (should say was) a huge diet coke drinker. I have pretty much gone cold turkey. I am drinking water, Christal Light and I tried Propel for the first time today, not bad. So I am trying to begin stopping things that I need to do away with now before it gets close to a surgery date so it won't be so hard to do everything at once. I am thinking of trying a protein drink also..do you have any suggestions? I hate gritty taste, so hopefully there is something out there that is like a smooth shake.
Hope you continue to do well. Thanks for the reply and God Bless, Diane
