GBMC HOSPITAL, OR AETNA INS ANY ONE DID OR HAVE?
Hi Katrina -
I can't tell you anything about Aetna - I have BCBC Blue Choice (HMO), and literally had no problems with approval or anything. Nothing! From what I've read, that's actually a miracle!
As far as GBMC, they were phenomenal. Of course, it helped that my surgeon was the great Dr. David Von Rueden. I had lap rny on 8/2/05, a Tuesday, and came home on Thursday. No complications, just some pain from the way the tubing (Jackson-Pratt drain) was laying inside of me. Once that came out 10 days later, I was fine. The staff at GBMC was great - I got back to my room about 7:30 p.m., and by 10:30 p.m., was up walking the halls with their assistance. After that, I was fine to walk on my own. Walk a lot - it really will help and will make you feel so much better than staying in bed. The nurses in Unit 48, where you'll probably be, are well equipped to deal with bariatric patients, and came as soon as I called. Once I could have liquids, everything on my tray was tailored to my dietary needs - s/f popsicles, Fruit 2O, etc. I can't say enough good things about them. But your recovery mainly depends on you.
Good luck, and let us know how you do!
Teresa
