Q for Bayview folkes....
My drs assistant said I need to be at the hospital at 6am on the day of my surgery for a surgery scheduled for 7am.
Then she also said that the surgery coordinator from bayview will call me the day before to tell me exactly what time to be there on the 28th, and that it may be different from the 6am time she gave me .... (I assume it might be later but not earlier??)
I am trying to arrange child care so this uncertainty is really stressing me out....
Can you tell me what time your dr told you to be there, and what time you actually had to report after bayview called you ?
Arnie -
I'm sorry I can't help you - I'm still pre-op too. But I will anxiously wait to hear any other responses. I'm schedueld for April 3, and they are going to call me on *Sunday?* with my arrival time? Somehow I'm a tad nervous about this. I like to have all my ducks in a very straight row, and this uncertainty does nothing for my equilibrium.
Good luck! And I really don't think it would be much earlier than 6am.

My husband says we should just hire a car service - its $60 from our house to bayview. I made a reservation just in case. But I hope I can cancel it.
They said that I can cancel the reservation if the hospital calls and gives me a later time.
The other thing we were thinking is that he would take care of the kids and I would just drive myself and then he can come with someone else to get me and pick up the extra car then,,, then I guess we would only be paying extra parking.
I had my surgery at Bayview last July with Dr. Schweitzer. I was told a couple of weeks before that I would probably be the second of three bypass procedures that he did that day. However, the afternoon before, the surgery coordinator called and said I was actually the last of the three -- I was told to be at the hospital at 11:30 a.m. for a scheduled 1:30 p.m. surgery. One of his procedures ran a little long though, so I wasn't taken into the OR until about 2:30.
That's probably not much help, except to reinforce that you really won't know for sure what time you have to be there until they call you the day before, especially if your doctor has more than one procedure scheduled that day. However, I seriously doubt you would have to report any earlier than 6 a.m.
Good luck with everything!!!

Hi:
I had my surgery at Bayview in December with Dr. Anne Lidor. I was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. surgery and told by my surgeon to be there at 6 a.m. because I was the first patient of the day. I had arranged for my mother to take my daughter to school for me and then my mother came to the hospital to be with me during surgery. I was also told that my surgery time may change if a patient comes that has more priority like diabetes or high blood pressure then they would need to push the surgery back. The surgery coordinator did call the day before surgery and explained the process and told me to be at the hospital by 6 a.m. so I assumed that there was no priority surgeries needed. When I arrived at the hospital surgery day at 6 a.m. there was people lined up to check in for all types of surgeries. I guess that is why they tell you to be there an hour and half early. The checking in process took about 30 minutes for me because they had to call everyone back one at a time to get signed in and then get prepped. Bayview has 10 operating rooms. Once you get called back then you get prepped for surgery, the anestigiolist will come out and then your surgeon and then everything moves from there. They didn't allow my family back to see me until about 7:00/7:15 to give me my hugs and kisses. I think at 7:25 a.m. they were wheeling me to the OR and that is all I remember prior to surgery.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I also work at Bayview as well.
