waiting for one more letter...
My PCP has been supportive from the begining, I am waiting for his letter of 6 months supervised dieting. Then the surgeon will send off the paperwork. Had consult Feb 6th. I ask my insurance company if I would be covered and of course they said, No, "not in contract". I have BCBS (South Carolina). I seriously need all your prayers to get approved. Does anyone out there have this insurance? Once approved, approximatly or on average, how long between approval and surgery. I looks like by reading posts it is about 2-4 weeks.

Kimberly,
I wish I had better wisdom to share, but I know of a lady in my support group w/BCBS out of South Carolina, and her husband is an insurance person! Between the two of them, they were unsuccessful in appealing and/or otherwise fighting the denial of coverage, and they're both pretty feisty folks. Ultimately, she had to go the self-pay route.

Good luck Kimberly, don't let others discourage you. Everyone "knows someone" with your insurance and I'm sure they all had different results. Keep in mind that every situation is DIFFERENT and Leesa's friend may have been denied due to other reasons. So please don't let comments like that discourage you. Get that letter and pray for the approval. I'll be praying for you.

Roni,
While I wish Kimberly well, and encourage her to fight the fight, my friend was denied because WLS was specifically excluded in the health insurance contract, and for no other reason.

Whatever Leesa, you generalize everything and it's quite discouraging to members. I've told you before and I hope Kimberly hears me loud and clear, when I first logged on to OH and posted a little bit about my situation, I had someone just like you, discouraging me with generalized remarks like yours. Everything I posted, this member "knew someone who was 'just like me' and they were DENIED". I gave up for a while because I didn't know any better. That poster was wrong to generalize my situation with their "friends situation" or their "knowledge of the system" and in my opinion, you are doing the same thing.
That's not why people come here Leesa. They come here for encouragement. Everyone "knows someone" with similar situations but we don't generalize and discourage the members situation like you do.
The point that you never seem to get is that YOUR friends denial or MY friends approaval have NOTHING to do with Kimberly, except that their employer provided the same insurance COMPANY. Every insurance company has several types of policies under it and YOU are not the expert on your friends policy vs. Kimberly's policy. Nor am I, which is why I stressed that EVERY situation is different.
I wish you would just try harder to encourage members rather than discourage them.
PS. Encouragement is hard to see when it's "I wish you well BUT....."
