Kaiser: First meeting with the Nutritionist
Yeah, I have went to a study and have to go to another one. I have to buy the machine thingy but only pay like 100 dollars and they pay the rest, but why invest in it if I am not going to need it after this surgery. I stopped breathing 97 times during the 17% that I actually slept. It was crazy, and i snored a total of 1700 + TIMES. That's another reason why I am ready to make a drastic change but kaiser is only doing what is best for us, right.
Hi Yvette,
I started my WLS Program at Kaiser in Largo. My nutritionist Dan M. was kinda boring, not really personable, but very knowledgable about the "Kaiser Way" of doing things.
Yes, you will have many appointment visits and 2/3 classes, and 1 mental health visit. And you must take them as they come up (date wise) because some classes are not available every month. So if you miss a class needed in Feb. the next class may not be given again until March/April so that will put you behind in your timeline.
I kept a personal calendar with all my dates, classes, food diary, workout schedules, and more because the nutritionist will check up on you. The good thing about Kaiser is everything is in one center and the nutritionist will make most of the appointment for you. So hang in there girlie.
I now have BC/BS due to a job change and cost increase. And with BC/BS I was running all over PG County looking for therapist, cardiologist, all types of ologist just to fullfill my requirments. And you know gas is still high!
And Kaiser uses the doctors over at GW Hospital (Dr. Paul Lin) he is fab-U-lous!!!!! He is still my surgeon.
Good Luck, keep the faith and it will all work out.

Sorry to disagree with you but six months is not remotely too harsh. I love KP's program. I have been to several OH conferences and I am constantly appaled at the number of people who just went to there doctor and asked for the surgery and got it a couple months later.
I spent five years of study learning and research from the day I first contemplated RNY until surgery day. The last year of that was in KP's program. KP does a very good job of weeding out those who are likely to fail. If you are unwilling to commit to 6 months of extremely detailed and strictly structured visits with strict requirments for record keeping and weight loss then perhaps you are not a very good candidate for RNY surgery.
My wife and I both had the surgery through KP and would not have done it any other way. There are some doctor's out there that do something as intense. (I hear Dr. Greene is one of them). This is not something to be taken lightly. KP is right to require folks to prove their ability to stick to a program. My apologies if my bluntness bothers you.
As for the supplements my wife and I take 2 flintstones chewables, 1 Iron tab, 1 B-12 tab and one calcium tab daily. That is for life.
Hope this helps.
Don
