Getting nervous again!
I'm going to see Dr. Gandsas on the 18th. He wanted me to lose 40lbs before the surgery. Last time I went, I lost 16 and I was sooooo disappointed even though it averaged out to a little over 4lbs a week loss. I have been sooooooo incredibly good even through the holidays. I've added excercise and continue to workout through an injury and everything. My biggest fear is going in and not losing enough again and being postponed once more. I had a goal of the end of '05 but when I didn't get my first appointment until the end of October, that shot that out of the water. Now if I don't make it agian, I'm afraid of what it will do to my psyche and my willpower. I know I can't do any more than I am doing...following the diet to a T, loading up on water, excercising every single day of the week, etc. I just was wondering how people handled it if/when they kept getting postponed. And if anyone has any more tips to really slam the weight loss.
I don't know if this would help, but I go back to the old style of dieting and was always taught to do a 5-7 day "cleansing" of your system before starting any diet.
You basically can only eat Broiled or Boiled chicken (skinless of course), and anything green (except peas). Green only salads, any green vegetables (except peas) etc. No sauces, butter, or salt of course, and for the salads only use a very minimum amount of light oil based dressings (nothing creamy). Also, fresh fruits (except bananas). Basically, you can eat as much as you want of this stuff as long as you follow the no sauces, no butter, rules. I typically can loose about 12 pounds in 6 or 7 days. After that, continue a regular diet, cutting down calories, ect. Remember, this is only a "cleansing" diet, don't continue it for longer than the 7 days. Keep in mind your bowels will .... shall we say .... not be normal color and consistency will change drasically, but at least you'll know its working.
Good Luck!
Marcia Hi,
Relax as much as possible. You are doing what you are supposed to do. You might give Nancy a call to see what other suggestions she has or there are other Dr. G patients that have had to lose weight (significant) pre-op. They can maybe get you some "moral" support.
If you can get to a pre-op or even post-op meeting for added encouragement.
And, finally, think of this as a dry run. Because post-op you need to have these same habits for long term success. The surgery is only a tool the rest is up to you.
Best wishes,
Lisa
