Have any of you had to have this done? I had my surgery back in July 2003 and have ALWAYS had iron/anemia problems. But now because of the surgery, even supplements that I take do not get absorbed. My latest bloodwork showed my hemoglobin at 10.3 and I think I was told that "normal" is around 12.4 - so the paperwork has been submitted to insurance for approval and then they'll call me to set up a date to get this done. What should I expect? Anyone have any reactions to the infusion? How long did it take for you? Can you eat before hand or during? I was told it's about a 4-8 hour process - - do you sleep? read? ?? Did you need someone to drive you? Thanks!

Hi Robin, It's a wonder they didn't want to give you a blood tranfusion normal hemoglobin for women is 12 to 16. Do you know your iron binding capacity that's propably why they want to give you an infusion of iron. The infusion is just a fancy way of sayng they're giving it to you via an IV and it's infused slowly so as not to over tax your liver you should be able to read, eat, walk if they hang the bag from a rolling pole. There souldn't be any reason you why couldn't drive yourself to and from. See you next month at Diane's. "wave" Karen Duncan

Good luck with it. I hope all goes well for you. Please follow all drs orders to the "T". If they say wait an hour before taking calcium pills after your iron pill time it to the T. Your health is worth it. vicky
