Great moments
Hello to all you readers and lurkers... I am back from Thanksgiving with my family, which went pretty good. I didn't really want to be home because my mom is an incredible cook and this is the holiday of food. (Granted we won't discuss the Christmas cookies...coming soon!!!) I read something the other day that amazed me. The average person eats over 7,000 calories on Thanksgiving day. How many of you barely met 1,000 for the day? I am pretty surprised that I didn't eat more then I did. I found that I really didn't want to indulge. Good Sign!!! Today, I went grocery shopping and I met an old friend of mine. Oreos....that are sugar free!!! Oreos are a passion of mine. While, I carried my old friend with me throughout store debating whether or not I wanted them. I could control myself and budget them out. Well, I debated throughout the store if I really wanted them...and as I was walking up an aisle, I spotted a woman in front of me...who must have weighed 400 pounds. I could see her cart...cookies, ice cream, chips, dips, etc. (a food fantasy...lol). Needless to say, one look at her and I told my old friends good bye. Didn't need them. It was a good moment to know that I was able to beat that urge and desire.
What do I desire, though... Local Yocals!!!!! I would love to hear from some of the locals in this room!!!!
Great Wow moment... they always seem to happen when we need them the most....
Interestingly, I just read that Americans actually gain less than one pound over the holiday season. It's the fact they don't take if off and get exercise the rest of winter that adds to the additional weight gain annually.
I always host Thanksgiving and at two years out this was the first year I was not prepping for a surgery or just out. It was a great time and while I have revamped my recipe's (sp?), no one seemed to notice.
Enjoy the Season!
Lisa
At one month post-op I too often find myself searching the shelves for my old comforts. One look at them though tells me I can live without them, and I'm better off for it too.
Way to go Daniel in weighing your options and going for the gold... you.
You made the best choice, I hope that when faced with the same temptations I can be as strong as that.
Hi Daniel, First let me say WAY TO GO what will power! Your self control is awesome.
I notice that you are from Glen Burnie so I wanted to personally invite you to a brunch that a bunch of us are putting together this weekend. It is always nice to have a mans side of surgery, my friend Sam will be attending and I know he would love not to be the only man there. So if your available, drop by! We are right up the street. Here are the details...
Hello Everyone. I have some GREAT news
The brunch has been scheduled and the room reserved. I am sending you the details, feel free to share with your other weight loss buddies that are interested.
Below you will find the details:
Location: Brooklyn Park Branch library @ 1 East 11th Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21225 (Meeting Room)
Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Date: 12/3/2005 - Saturday
Menu: Each person will bring their favorite breakfast, lunch or brunch item. Serving size should feed at least 10, Drinks will be provided...Coffee, Juice and cola's.
In addition to the brunch we would like to bring out the holiday season by having a gift exchange. If you would like to participate (completely up to you, if you bring a gift you get a gift) here is how it works... Bring a gift appropriate for both male or female in the amount of $10.00. Use your imagination and be creative. During the brunch those who are participating in the exchange will gather round and begin to exchange gifts. How does it work? All of the gifts are put together in a Santa pile, who goes first? We will start with the person who has had surgery first and work our way around to our newbie's as we call everyone. The first person chooses a gift - opens the gift and shows everyone. The next person chooses a gift BUT before opening the gift he/she can either keep their gift or exchange it with the person before them and so on. The game is very fun and known to bring out a lot of laughs.
This day is not an official meeting, we will not sit in a circle and formally discuss our surgeries and life thereafter, this day will be very informal, a day where we can introduce ourselves to many individuals and choose our topics of conversation. Just a day of fun spent with fellow WLS buddies. Feel free to bring your before & after pictures
Please email me with your menu item just for my own peace of mind in what we will have to serve.
I am very excited to see everyone, both old & new, Please RSVP to me via email for this day. It will help to have headcount when setting up the room.
See you all real soon ~
