Im so disappointed!
I made an appointment for today to see my new primary care doctor to try to get the process started and I got there at 2pm and by 530pm i still hadnt been seen! My friend that came with me said that they may have put me off because of the nature of my appointment but still 3 1/2 hours that is just unprofessional! I was so POed i got my check and left. now i have to start all over again and find a new doctor. Does anyone know any good Primary care doctors in Waldorf, LaPlata, or Mechanicsville?
Hi Rebecca, I am sure you are so disappointed, as you should be.... but, THAT doc staff should be dealt with by the doctor...no explanation for a 3.5 hour wait? geez...at the very least they could have offered an explanation...he had an emergency, etc....sounds like you actually got off easy....you figured out a major issue on the first app't...now you can move on and find a professional office.
Best wishes to you....
RAE
Thanks! They didnt explain anything even when i blew up at them lol. I guess I am just gonna keep going to different doctors until i find one that i am comfortable with. You are right at least i found out on my first appointment, it would have been bad if i would have been 6 or 7 months into the process and then have to find a new doc.
I'm not really sure you have to see a primary care doctor to get things started - I'm pretty sure most of the way, I just went to Dr. Greene's office and dealt with his staff directly.
But - I wouldn't tolerate that kind of wait, from any doctor - *especially* if you made an appointment.
I hope you have better luck (I'm still in the process of moving to a new primary care physician, to a new doctor closer to my home) - I had this surgery a little over a year ago. It was a long drive to Dr. Greene's (in Rockville) but I absolutely believe it was worth every mile.
Well, the reason I have to see my primary care is because I have Aetna and they require 6 months of supervised diet and exercise program. So I have to go there for at least 6 months which sucks...
I have found a new doctor which I really like in Waldorf a little far away but i really do like her and she supports the fact I want to have the surgery and she started documenting everything so i have 5 months left haha. She refered me to a Dr. Kirkpatrick in DC. I was looking into a Dr. Afram in DC but she said Dr. Kirkpatrick was good so i thought well i can go visit him and if i dont like him i can try Dr. Afram. Does Dr. Greene do Lap?
Thanks for your response!
Rebecca: Sorry you are having to go through the 6 months wait.. I was lucky, my primary care doctor had been working with me for several years to get my weight down, so I already had at least 6 months of supervision documented. As for your new doctor refering you to Dr. Kirpatrick, I think its worth a visit. I had surgery 4/7/05 with Dr. Kirkpatrick an I am pleased with where I am, at this point. Seven months+ out and down 96 lbs.. , 12 more pounds to goal. I could not have lap because of previous female surgeries, so I had a full RNY. I am not your average patient as I am 55 years old, and some doctors will not do surgery on older patients. I don't think Dr. Kirpatrick does lap himself, but he has a doc with him that does, and I hear from patients he has done that they are very pleased. Dr. K is chief of surgery at Washington Hospital Center, and has been doing this surgery for over 25 years. He does take vacation in the summer so sometimes you are seen by his associate Dr. Granet. They are both very nice, and will take the time to talk to you about any questions you have. I would be glad to tell you anything you want to know, just e-mail me. Beverly
Beverly,
At one point my old primary care doctor had prescriped me Redux before it was taken off the market but that was years and years ago and they had done nothing since then I wish they would have so i wouldnt have to go through the 6 month wait but I had a bad doctor that is why I was looking for a new one. I think it will be well worth the wait! and I think I found a great doctor now!
My friend had the surgery with Dr. kirkpatrick about 10 years ago and to quote her "he saved her life" I do want to have Lap though so that will be the only downfall, but if someone in his office does it i will be willing to give them a shot! My friend also loves Dr. K not only for "saving her life" but how friendly and caring he was to her and still is.
Sounds like you are doing wonderfully Congrats and good luck on reaching your goal weight! People like you are what inspires me to continue on with my journey
Yes he does. I presume you mean, Lap Band (and not laparoscopic, meaning all surgeries done that way).
Here's his website:

There's also a Southern Maryland Yahoo support group SO_MD_WLS. They have a pretty good group that meets at least once a month in the Lexington Park library.
