Blood Clots and WLS

Has anyone had a blood clot prior the surgery? How was the procedure in order to have surgery while on the blood thinners? I am in the process of being approved for my WLS but just in september I had a blood clot on my calf so now I been taking blood thinners, so I wonder what will most likely be the steps taken for me to have surgery or if I wont be able to have it until I am off the blood thinners.

My surgeon actually has us start on Lovenox or Heparin the day before surgery. This helps to stop possible clots after surgery. I think that as long as your surgeon knows that you are on blood thinners, she/he should be able to work with it. But... as always, check with your surgeon. I agree...my surgeon put me ON blood thinners prior to surgery and kept me on them for about a week after...so, obviously the surgeon will want to know that you have a history with clots and that you are already on a blood thinner, but I can't imagine that it would stop you from having WLS. Best wishes to you, RAE
