Trying a Tri
I've been wanting to do a triathlon for ages and next October I will JUST DO IT! I am officially in training and I am going to keep going!!! I figure if I post this publically I can't back out. Hahaha! The open water swim freaks me out a bit. I learned to swim in the 80's and really need to read up and train in that area. Getting use to also swimming with that amt of people in the water will prove to be a challenge. Biking should be fine for me although I do need to invest in a good road bike as of right now I just have a Mt. Bike/hybrid. Running needs plenty of work too but that distance I can probably do right now without a problem. I'll also need to get some practice on the transitions as well as get use to swimming in a wetsuit.
My darling husband did the Osprey Sprint Triathlon last year so I know exactly what I am going to get myself into! It really is not that bad for a first race and a very friendly atmosphere that is really nice for beginners
Course Info:
The .5-mile swim will be held in the shallow (4 to 8 feet) *****oteague Bay. Average water temperature is 68°. Wetsuits are permitted. The swim is an in-water start with plenty of room to spread out and properly seed yourself. The 15.2-mile bike route is a flat circular course; and the 3.1-mile run is flat out on the roads surrounding the rural countryside of southern Worcester County. The finish line will be at the Public Landing Boat Pavillion.
I need some additional motivation to shake things up in my workouts so I think this will be it. Hoping to also do a few smaller races prior to next year as well.
This sprint tri takes place in Public Landing/Snow Hill, Maryland. More info here:

Thought I would post and see if anyone else might be interested or wanted to meet to do some run/swim/bike training. I live in the Towson area and will train here. My only pool access right now will be seasonal so I probably won't start swimming until the warm weather unless I decide to invest in joining an indoor pool. For now I am going to just stick with biking and running outdoors and indoors.
Here is a good couch to sprint triathlon training program too: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=51
Stacy,
Congrats darling. That is pretty amazing that you've taken it to the next step. I am proud of you and will be there to support you along the way. When the weather breaks I will be glad to get in the water with you and swim. I hate running so your on your own there. My own pet peeve. I can't listen to the skin hit the other skin. Not trying to be gross just stating a fact. Maybe once I get PS done I will not be so self concious about it but if I can hear it others can too. I hope everything else is getting better too for you. We need to get together in the upcoming weeks for a girls day etc. Talk to you soon.
Denise
Thanks Denise! If Skin is the only thing stopping you then get some good running pants.. holds everything in!! Would love to swim with you though. Do you go to an indoor pool somewhere? I need some serious coaching on swimming.
Things are status quo with me on the estrogen levels. Insanely high and on day 20 of my period. Seeing the OB/GYN on the 14th. I guess I'm just sort of trying to adapt to it now. Tired of stressing about it and probably making it worse. I'm sure once my hormones level out and get use to the smaller me everything will be just fine.
Would love to hang out! I agree. Need the girls day again! Just let me know what your schedule is like.
Stacy
I use the pool in Annapolis during the winter months when I get down that way. They are opening a gym that my company has memberships to that will have 3 pools in it this year. It's being built and right around the corner from my house their building an Aqua Center. I believe the Y still has their pool open I can look into it and AACC isn't too far either where you can get a swim pass for open swim. As for the pants thanks for the suggestion I will look into them.
As for my schedule I will get back to you soon with open dates.
Denise
Fab, Stacye! I have a Metro-wide membership at the YMCA, and the Towson Y has a pool. Or you can be my guest and we can swim at the pool at the Stadium Place YMCA in Baltimore City, where all my exercise magic happens.
If you're going to buy a new bike, maybe you'll want to sell your old mountain bike hybrid? I'd be interested.
Email me privately of you're interested.
Best of luck.

My husband use to manage a Merritt Athletic Club gym and then he went to Federal Hill Fitness so I've been spoiled with free memberships. Doing a metro-wide membership to the Y or just the Towson Y might make sense. I'll have to check into that. I'll probably train for a few more months on the mot bike/hybrid before I invest in a road bike but will gladly sell it to you when that time comes if you are still interested. Would love to come as your guest first to swim. Maybe I can meet you one day before or after work. I'll email you so we can make some plans. Thanks so much Kasey. This is great!
