Insurance Question

Anyone out there insured by Empire BC/BS or United Health Care? I may be eligible to apply for one of these insurance companies and wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with WLS using either company. I was denied by my present insurer through my husband's union.

Christine I have United Healthcare PPO and have found them to be absolutely wonderful. My approval came within 5 days, that was with a BMI of 37 and no major co-morbidities. UHC is well known to be one of the better insurance companies when it comes to approving WLS. I don't know anything about BC/BS. Good luck!

Appeal Appeal Appeal.. during the process they have to tell you the criteria they use and you may be able to show them you meet the criteria! Don't take "NO" for an answer! Good luck!

I have UHC Select POS. It covers WLS as long as there is a diagnosis of morbid obesity, although I ended up not having surgery. Best of luck. Kasey 365/210/195 (nonop)
