Help - Bacterial Infections post surgery
Here's a personal kind of question -- hope any of you can help. I had my surgery back in 2003 and am now down to around 170 - the only problem I've had post surgery is diarrhea - going 4-5 times a day. Anyway - I've recently started dating and we've both had all the sexual disease testing done - all is negative (yea) - but I'm now CONSTANTLY getting urinary tract infections and I had to get a biopsy done on my uterus (weird period cycles) and found out I had a bacterial infection there too!
Now mind you, I'm in my 40's and know how to wipe - front to back -
and I'm wondering if maybe during sex, with the moisture generated or friction if (pardon my grossness) some bacteria from my back end is travelling up to my vagina??? I have no idea what could be causing all of these problems and I was told it's NOT something sexually transmitted, so he doesn't need to be on any meds - it's just something with me and my "innards"
any suggestions or ideas? I'm almost afraid to have a sex because I'll probably get another UTI - ugh!!
Thanks!
Robin
Hi Robin,
Missed seeing you at Diane's. To get personal. How long had it been since you had been intemint? (it's late having brain freeze excuse the misspelling) If it has been along time you may just be experiancing what it call virgin bride bladder. It got it's name because a virgin bride is used to having sex and will get a bladder infection. Did the doctor saying was intestinal bacteria? The vagina have it's own bacteria and there's only short distance to the bladder.

Have you heard anything from or about how Karen is making out last I heard she was in the hospital with an infection. I don't have her number.
Robin,
As for suffering from UTI's its not so uncommon. Another name for it is honeymoon cystitis. I had chronic ones in my mid 20s and they put me on a low dose antibiotic to take when I would have sex. I would take a pill after sex and that did the trick. My urologists is the one who finally did this and since my PCP and gynecologist have followed suit. It didn't mean that I didn't get them but once or twice a year was better than every other week. I hope this helps if you have any questions please feel free to email me.

I don't know what this is or what it is called. But I will say that both you and your BF should get treated at the same time. Otherwise you will just pass this back and forth to one another. UTI's can be passed back and forth from sexual partners just like any other kind of bacteria. Like a cold for instance.

Michelle,
A UTI can not be passed back and forth between partners. It is not a sexual transmitted disease. It is a bacterial infection just like a sinus infection. It requires antibiotic to treat. Women are more suseptible to them because we have a large opening that it is a dark moist area. A cold or flu isn't in the same ball park. Viral infection versus bacterial. We don't treat viral with antibiotics because they need to run their course. However many people who suffer with sinus issues will get a cold that then becomes a sinus infection and then they are treated with antibiotics.
