What should I do first?

I've finally made the decision that wls may be best for me but I wonder is it best for me to see my pcp first and have her refer to someone or should I just start off by trying to make an appointment with one of the surgeons here in Baltimore

Hi! I think that would depend on your insurance...My insurance doesn't require a referral, so I just made appointments with a few area surgeons and picked from there. Good Luck! Genny

Hi Crystal Some of the weight loss surgeon still require a referal before they will allow you to get an apointment. This just a letter stating that your doctor recommends this surgery and he/she feels you would benefit from this procedure. This is different from the referal you would need for your insurance referal Karen Duncan

I kinda did both. I talked to people I knew had the surgery and found a dr. I wanted to use based on the info. I heard from them. I also talked to my PCP and he was writing the letter before I left his office.
